Chemo finished

I had my final chemo treatment yesterday Im so excited to be finished that aprt of my journey. The 4 Paxotaxol treatments were certainly more managable than the 4 AC treatments. Having said that I have nueropathy  in my fingers and toes and they had to lower my final dose as the side effects will get worse for up to 3 months. I have a little while before radiotherapy so am looking forward to having a relatively normal few weeks. Also looking forward to getting my eating back on track and not taking steroids anymore. I have put on about 6kg and am feeling bloated and yuk. I know its the last thing that should be on my mind but readin the literature thay gave me at the hospital being a healthy weigh is important . Doe anybody have any recommendations for exercise that you can do with numb feet... running is out and walking is also difficult.

  • The nurses at radiotherapy were very encouraging of my swimming during radio. The main thing is to rinse off the pool water as soon as you get out and apply your moisturizer cream (I used Moo Goo as it does not contain petro chemicals). As long as your skin does not break down, it should be ok, but check with the staff at your radiotherapy. Aqua aerobics sounds like a great idea just make sure you are over your last chemo and have your immune system recovered. Xxx
  • Thanks everyone , I didnt know about the exercise phsyiologist I will certainly look into that with my Gp. I had thought of water aerobics but I'm not sure how that would go once I begin radiotherapy. Those of you who swim did you have any issues with your skin if you had radiotherapy?

  • I agree with Deanne, that exercise is beneficial in more ways than one.It has certainly helped me throughout my treatment and now after treatment.I went to my GP and had him fill out the form for Medicare, and I now have 5 sessions with an exercise physiologist, that are almost totally covered by Medicare. If you do this, just make sure that you see someone who is experienced in after treatment care.As Deanne said, swimming is really good, and I also have lots of upper body exercises I was given, using a band, that you could probably do sitting down.I hope that you find something to suit you.Take care Cheers xox Robyn
