Chemo date is the 13th Dec

They were booked out until the 13th Dec.  Thats ok, I get more time to eat and drink wine (heheheeh) heal and exercise.  I have more time to have hair.  (still smiling).  Can anyone give me any information on the Gaps or costs that follow through from Chemotherapy Bills when you go through private health cover Please???

  • Hi Bel,

That is what they did with me - admit me as a day patient therefore costs were kept down.

Glad you have got this sorted - a weight of your mind!

Take care and best wishes for treatment

  • As soon as I put that comment there I thought, just ring and ask.  They are very informative.  I am a private hospital patient, and I have one more fee of $100 to pay as they split the annual hopital gap into 3, beginning with the 2 lots of @$200.  So I will be up for it all over again next year as each chemo visit is classed as an admission.  Then I will only have to pay extra for the "high cost medications" if my doctor charges above the reco retail price.  The advised I ask on the first day.  But I have made the decision to go the private system, and I keep getting told not to worry about it, my husband wants to do that for me!!  So I wont keep banging on about the constant flow of bills!  (smiling).

  • I am with CBHS and have no out of pocket for my chemo. I am admitted to day hospital each time and see my onco @ each treatment. The only time I am out of pocket is if I see the onco without treatment and then sometimes he even sends that straight ti Medicare for me with no fee to me. Hope this helps :)
  • Hi Bel and welcome to this wonderful site. I too went through the Private system for my chemo and was out of pocket about $50 each treatment, $150 each doctor's visit. I finished my treatment in September ( Herceptin) and must admit I don't miss the bills every month! Overall is was manageable. I'm with HBF and they have been ok. I just liked the fact that I had my own oncologist each time and the same nurses. Very comforting.

Good luck and have a last wine for me! I found I barely drank during chemo ( 6months worth!) but there is no reason why you can't if you feel like it.

Take care and let me know how you go.
