Chemo #2 FEC

Well after having a couple of good weeks in the lead up to cycle 2, things went a little pear shaped. I felt like I was getting a cold over the weekend and was extremely tired on Sunday night, by the time we sat down for dinner I was so congested. I got the shivers and 5 minutes later was roasting hot. Uh oh. Off to emergency I went with a fever. Ended up on IV antibiotics and having a chest X-ray and ct brain. Went through hell and back waiting for the results on the ct, but they were clear. My bloods were ok too, so it looks like I had sinusitis. Can't believe I got though the 3 weeks after the first chemo only to have this get me the day before my next cycle. On top of all this my hair came tumbling out on Saturday. One minute it was there and the next so much of it as gone. I knew it was going as it was itchy and "loose". I had a shower and most of it literally washed away. It was awful seeing it, even though I had cut it short. So now I am a nude nut. Well almost, there is still some patches hanging on. I wish they would fall out too, because the patchiness is worse than none. So after a 2 day delay I have had cycle 2. 2 down...4 to go. I left my little girl at home with a friend. Hard to leave because she is sick too, but I'm sure she had a ball. Til next time...

  • Hi Kelly

When we live with this disease we tend to forget that we have a body that gets ordinary problems as well and not just those related to breast cancer.

Mine was that I woke up one night absolutely freezing, teeth chattering etc. and immediately thought treatment induced toxicity or infection. But I didn't feel sick at all. Took a while to realise that I had gone to sleep with the window wide open, the cold change had swept in and I was just good old-fashioned chilled to the bone.

I found FEC harder than Taxotere, hope you have a much better experience. I shaved my hair off before starting chemo because this was one way I could stay in control. Didn't have any itchy attacks, in fact it started to grow back under FEC and then when it was a few millimetres long fell out during Taxotere. When it started to grow again I was looking forward to having curly hair, but it grew back exactly as it grew before. We're all different!

    With love

  • Hi Kelly,

Sorry to hear that all was going so well until the day before chemo #2. At least, everything was checked out and you are now back on 'course'.

I was diagnosed 5 days after you in Dec and have only commenced my first cycle today - TC. I hope the weeks after your second round will be as good as after the first minus the sinusitis, of course.

As for me, I feel great now but am waiting for the truck to hit me. We will see....

Good luck this next 3 weeks and enjoy your little girl.
