Checkup
Hello ladieees :):) Well this morning I had my checkup with my surgeon.I am just going into my 3 rd year since diagnosis, and I see my surgeon every 6 months and my oncologist the other times.I almost cancelled the visit, because I really felt that it was just a lot of money for a few minutes, and I feel really well.He chatted for a minute or two, then checked my scar line. Then he checked my lymph nodes on the side that I had my mastectomy. He said' there are several soft lymph nodes, that I would like to get an ultrasound on.How are you feeling generally?' At this point I could actually feel tears welling up! I swallowed hard and said,'I feel really healthy'.He said, let's just get the ultrasound, and if there is anything suspicious looking, they will do a biopsy on the spot.In this case, come back to me 2 or 3 days after and we will discuss the results. If there is nothing, they will tell you,and then I just want you to come back to me in 8 weeks. We will keep an eye on this.I am thinking "On what ?!?!?" . It's the same old story right? We will never really get totally away from the fact that we had BC.I feel sure it's nothing, but I have to wait until next Friday to find out. This really made me think about the importance of regular checkups though.I have become quite complacent lately with lots of things, like my diet, stress etc.In the early days I was so conscious of doing the right thing by ME,but things have slipped a bit. This brings me right back to where I was ,very quickly!! So if any of you ladies are having second thoughts about doctors visits, don't even consider not going.Hope everyone is doing ok:):) Cheers Robyn.xox

Hi Robyn,
Just wanted you to know that I will be thinking of you, and hope your biopsy is clear and you can breathe easily again. You are right - they are ultra-careful with us - and the sudden anxiety doesn't get any easier to deal with.
I agree that it is too easy to slip out of our post BC routine - not so many green drinks, exercise, diet, etc. Ticking them off on the calendar helps to keep focused!
You have done everything right for so long now (we are oldies on the site!) that it surely will pay dividends! Please keep us all in touch with how you go.
Big hug. Michelle xxx

Thanks Tonya, am not looking forward to the prep either but the nurse gleefully told me I was having a "pre-Christmas detox!" Wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry :-))

Hi Jane, it was my first colonoscopy too. The worst bit was drinking the 2litres of the horrible salty preparation stuff to clean you out.I found eating mouthfuls of jelly between glassfuls got it down. The actual procedure was easy- you drift off to sleep- aliens probe you and you wake up feeling fine- no sore bum or anything.I see my Gastro dr in a few weeks to get full report and plan.Hope it goes ok for you and try not to worry- it's just fear of the unknown. Tonya xx

Hi Tonya, I've got a colonoscopy scheduled for next Tuesday due to some unexplained bleeding. It's the first time I've ever had one and am feeling a bit worried about it all. They've tried to reassure me that it's probably just precautionary but, you know, your mind does race away with the possibilities :-) Sorry to hear about your diverticulitis, hopefully that can be managed OK? Thanks Robyn,I'm sure it will be nothing. I'm not on any meds for bc as I wasn't hormone receptive. It's just one more thing blah. I've asked Santa for a new body that works coz I'm fed up with the old one! You hang in there too! Xox

Try not to worry Karen! ( says me!!) I had a d&c and hysteroscopy because of post menopausal bleeding. It showed not much except for thickening of the uterine lining, which is apparently not uncommon with Tamoxifen.Good luck.Robyn xox

Hi Robyn and other lovelies on this thread, we are all in the same boat- once you've had a cancer diagnosis it's stamped on your forehead for sure. One tiny deviation from normal and we are whisked off for a myriad of tests. It's a good thing but it makes us anxious.I had a colonoscopy last week- no cancer but severe diverticula. I also had 7 tubes of blood taken because one of my liver enzymes was slightly elevated.Thats the trouble- they look for cancer but find all sorts of other problems you didn't know about! No pearls of wisdom for you Robyn apart from knowing just how you feel.Big hug,Tonya xx
ps. Congrats on your story in the Beacon- love your work!
