Change of Plans!

Hello Ladies. Today was meant to be the day but.......We were half way to the hospital this morning (we live in the country so its an hours drive to Adelaide) for my auxillary clearance operation when we get a phone call to say my op has been cancelled as the hospital has no beds available! I was devasted as I had it all ready in my head and I just wanted it over and done with!!!! But apparently it is the heat and so many have been admitted with dehydration. I am now booked in for next Wednesday with a promise it wont happen again. I just worry that there may be these cancer cells floating around in my lymph nodes and I dont want it to spread........well such are the joys of being a public patient!!

  • Thanks Tonya! Feeling great today. Back on track and keeping busy. As a Christian I believe I am in good hands so I believe that there is no cancer in my lymph nodes! But I do want them out too! xx

  • You poor love-you would have been all psyched up for the op and then the goal posts get moved on you.It is so distressing but what can you do-it's out of your control.Tell yourself how amazing your lymph nodes are at containing any stray cancer cells-try and believe it. I had to have a full node clearance because my surgeon said (due to the size of the cancer lump) I had a 60% chance of cancer cells in my nodes.Guess what - no cancer cells in any of the 17 nodes. I just thought what a good job my boob did of containing the cancer. All you can do is stay busy but also do what relaxes you. Big hug, Tonya xx

  • Pretty stressful having your surgery cancelled. I've actually just done a blog about being dehydrated:( Might I say I am in Brisbane and it wasn't heat that got me in trouble:) but I do hope next week goes well for you, take care,

  • Sorry you have had such a stressful day! The frustrating part about these things,is that it is out of your hands!I had a wait for surgery, for a different reason, but I remember my oncologist telling me,that a few days in the scheme of things, makes no difference at all.Keep busy until Wednesday, and it will come around in no time at all.Cheers Robyn.xoxo
  • It is distressing when surgery is cancelled or postponed. You have everything settled in your mind and have got yourself psyc'd for it then boom its off.

It happened to me last year when I weas to have my kidney removed, we had actually pulled into the carpark when they said that it was decided to do a biopsy first. Interesting thing my husband and I both asked my specialist if I required a biospy and the anwer was no then on the very day they did.

Now there was all sorts of circumstances and yes I would rather a biospy than loose a good kidney but my sister had flights booked etc to come look after me.

Anyway these things happen and I learnt the hard way to go with the flow.

    Take care honey.
