CBD oil effects

Personally, CBD stopped excruciating leg pain that the doctors could not diagnose and it also stopped my nausea. Prior to taking it I would pace the floor crying for hours as I could not get relief and it felt like someone was stabbing my legs.

The drawback for me was it gave me borderline runs. Not enough to take anything for it, but enough so I needed to be near the loo.

The advantage outweighed the side effect.

If you need pain relief, it is certainly worth trying.

I would love to hear other peoples reactions to this drug .
  • Definitely agree arpie…I had letters from my sleep specialist but because I had a CBD/THC combo the THC showed in breath test, though so low it didn’t show in saliva test. The THC accumulates in the fat cells though so that’s why I had to cease it. I wish it was accessible financially and that the tiny THC in medicinal treatment was exempt from those roadside testing and fines, but hasn’t caught up yet. I’m allowed to drive on my long-term opiates, but if I’d stayed on the cbd/THC I would’ve had to stop when the THC got to a certain level in my body, ridiculous. So I’m stuck with opiates because the laws haven’t caught up with science, and the PBS is slow to act in the best interest of people rather than drug companies. Aw well 🤷‍♀️
  • I've been on medicinal cannabis oil for 3 years now, tho I had a big break over the last 6 months, but am back on it again now.  Luckily, it never gave me the trots or any real side effects - tho it definitely reduced the pain & more recently (with some THC as well) helped with my sleep patterns.

Straight CBD oil should NOT give a positive roadside test. The test is only for the THC component of Cannabis Oil - which is the 'psychotic' component.  It usually needs to be heated to activate the 'psycho' ingredients (ie smoked) and some oils are cold pressed ....

My Onc has given me a letter (that I keep with me in the car) saying that I am on the Medicinal Cannabis Oil  for side effects of Breast Cancer treatment.  I would hope that if I got a roadside positive - that it would go towards me not losing my licence.

Sadly, it is still demonised in Australia & the cost of getting access to it (legally or under the table) will be out of reach of many people ..... which is ridiculous, given the addictions & deaths attributed to synthetic opioids ..... whereas no-one has died from medicinal cannabis oil ....

One day, hopefully, it will be decriminalised and will be more cost effective .... one scientist's study on cannabis oil's effect on BC cells ....

  • Thanks @Blossom1961 for this discussion
i have been considering the cbd oil for my pain. As i hate taking my pain medication but its too painful without it
As i have to drive just to get to and from work this now puts the cbd oil on the don’t bother list. Bummer.
Im always getting told off by my drs for not keeping to the pain treatment plan.
I just hate what long term irreversible damage it can do the my liver etc.
If they would just legalise it and give it a scale along the line alcohol has.
    we can live i hope
  • We live in Victoria.  A friend's GP handed this to him before prescribing CBD oil:

"Can you drive after taking CBD oil in Australia?
Yes, as long as you do not have any THC in your system. If you are prescribed a CBD only product then you may legally drive. If you take a medication containing THC and test positive for THC in a mouth swab test, you can lose your license.

Patients taking cannabidiol-only medicines can lawfully drive, as long as they are not impaired. Drivers should check whether the medicinal cannabis product they have been prescribed contains THC. Many medicinal cannabis products do not contain THC".

He was also referred to the following VicRoads website:

    https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/driver-safety/drugs-and-alcohol/medicinal-cannabis-and-driving

For him and his family it was decided he would not take the risk of being tested and failing.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi @GenK,
thankyou for the information above it certainly has given me a lot to think about,I dont drive much myself, however would not want to be in a situation where I was pulled over and subsequently tested,I have yet to give cbd a go but it definately is up there in my thoughts, I pay $6.80 for my morphine prescription and goodness knows what it would cost for the cbd oil, I have been told anything from $150 upwards for a month, where is the sense in that,oh well I will just keep chugging along and see what the future brings.

  • My mother isn’t at the stage of needing ongoing pain relief, hopefully chemo and radio will be enough now surgery done and successful. I have chronic pain including nerve injury and a sleep disorder and trialled CBD/THC, and it made a huge difference where I actually didn’t notice any side effects but significant decrease in my pain medication and breakthrough needs and similar with my need for sleep medication; however whilst I was on a level even the police agreed didn’t cause impairment and thus was safe for me to drive on, if I’d stayed on it the THC would’ve shown in a saliva test at an MDT which would mean police would have no discretion under the law but to charge/fine me for driving under the influence, so whilst the cost was a significant barrier, given we’ve lost most of our buses and I have a level of reduced mobility I need to be able to drive and had to give it up.
My sleep specialist is/was an authorised prescriber as is my pain specialist, but until there’s both subsidies and an amendment in the law to allow people to drive on prescribed THC as long as function not impacted (like is standard with opiates and many other medications), I’m stuck with increased medication, increased pain and poor quality sleep as I can’t use it and my consultants all agree on my case I need the extremely low but present THC with the CBD to have a therapeutic effect.
I wouldn’t rule it out, just be aware of the costs and the laws around driving if like me you have to drive (and I’m not in rural area but still necessary)
