Cardio exercise during chemo - news story

There was a news story on recently, regarding a trial that had been conducted on breast cancer patients undergoing chemo - cardio exercise to lessen the impact on the heart.  I do plan to ask my oncologist about it next week (along with all the other questions I have) but has anyone taken part in this trial?  If so, what sort of exercises do they get you to do?
  • If you can do the study I would.  I would have liked to have done this type of trial when I had treatment. There's a many benefits to exercise when undergoing treatment and post treatment.

I recently finished 12 weeks of chemo and 20 radiation treatments. During my treatment I worked with an exercise physiologist called Kate from DNA Healthgroup - Movement Against Cancer to do a weekly exercise program. Kate was very informed about current research on the benefits of exercise for tolerating chemo, managing side effects  and also reducing the risk of the recurrence of cancer post treatment.
  • Apparently, Baker Institute are still taking people for a trial into exercise to prevent heart damage during chemo if anyone is interested.  There are some restriction which are mentioned on their page and ideally you should not yet have started chemo.
  • A couple of the ladies I did Encore with were undergoing chemo - one literally immediately before class. They both believed the hydrotherapy helped them.
