Hi Unicornkisses, I am glad you are going to have it done. My breast surgeon and I couldn't trust mammograms and ultrasound as well, because either of them picked up my second lump in my right breast initially. The second lump was found during biopsy. I had lumpectomy removed 2 lumps in late December last year, my pathology results post lumpectomy indicated LCIS across whole specimen. I was recommended single mastectomy, I was worried about my left breast. I had MRI done in march. It found another lesion but negative biopsy in my left breast. The radiologists described my Breasts as "nightmares ". So I am booked in for double mastectomy this Friday. 2 DAYS TO GO!
I had a cannula inserted before go into the MRI room. In the MRI I lied down on my tummy, my breasts were dangling into a see through plastic box , my face planted on a round cousion ring. There were a button you can press if you need them to stop or talk to them. Feet in first, i could lift my head and see outside of the tunnel. It was noisey even with ear plugs. The dye got infused into the cannula at some stage during scan. The worst bit was to keep still for the whole scan about 45min to 1 hour. I tried really hard to distract myself and practice deep breathing exercises. After they told me it was the last 2 minutes left, I felt it was the longest 2 minutes in my life, then a nurse came in the room said to me "can you hold on for another 5 minutes, we need to take more pictures ". There were nothing I could do by trying so hard to keep still for another 5 minutes. At the end of it I was emotionally exhausted and the instinct fear of something was wrong came play in my mind, I couldn't control my tears. By the time the nurses helped me out of the MRI, I was in a total mess. I probably will ask for Valium for the next MRI.
Wishing you the best of luck with your MRI!
Big gentle hugs for you! Xxx
