Breast “gurgling”

I had a lumpectomy 5 days ago, and have been feeling a “gurgling” sensation. The first few times I felt it the drain tube was still in, so I thought it was probably the sensation of fluid draining from the wound. The drain is now out though, and I have again felt the sensation. Has anyone else felt this? And any ideas what’s causing it?

  • I too had this after my lumpectomy, I was due at the surgeons on day 6 and she said it should go away on its own. I did however need another op for axillary clearance and that was the next day along with 10 days of a drain. Unsure if the drain helped or not but she really didn't seem worried about it! I first though it was my stomach gurgling a very strange problem!
I hope it settles down for you 😊
  • Seroma seems likely - I had a large one that audibly sloshed when I bent over - thoroughly disquieting!
  • Could be a seroma, which is a collection of fluid. They are very common and usually resolve themselves but it is important that they are monitored.  All this stuff is very inconvenient, but best get it checked out. Worse case is it may need draining--also very common. Mxx
