bras post-op
Hi I am reposting because I put it in the wrong discussion.......I am to have a bilateral mastectomy without reconstruction in 2 weeks time. I have been given the berlei care kit and have some knitted soft forms. I am a b cup size. Is there need for me to wear a bra while I am healing after surgery or is it ok to go without?

- I've had a double lovey. I have the prosthetics and I put them in either the ahh bras or the Kmart sports ones but feel most comfortable with nothing most of the time. I'm finding in the warmer weather the prosthetics are a bit hot and sweaty so I really prefer flat and fabulous and wear the fake titties when I wear something that needs them. Margie xx
- Sometimes the scar actually feels comfortable with some pressure for support and can minimise bruising and seroma risk. So I guess talk with your bc nurse about what they recommend. Kath x
@Ann-Marie_BCNA Willow26 is having surgery without reconstruction. :) - sort of. there is need for other surgery too, and maybe radiotherapy. The support and information here has been great.
- Thanks Lucy. I have just 7 months of chemo has given me lots of time to learn and reflect. I am just ready to have it all behind me, flat and fabulous.
- @Willow26 all the best with your surgery. I had a left mastectomy with delayed reconstruction. As @nonkyboy said your suture lines can be quite sensitive at first so you might want to just wear a loose fitting top. You can choose what size you want to be, or stay flat and fabulous as @Summerhill38 said. One of the benefits of delayed reconstruction was having time to think about what I wanted to do. There are some fabulous Instagram posts about women who have chosen not to have reconstruction. x

- @Willow26 I think it would be more comfortable going without a bra while you are healing of you feel comfortable. I think a bra could rub on your suture lines. Good luck with your surgery x

Do whatever is comfortable for you. If you are having a bilateral you won't need to support one boob and pad out the missing side and if you simply want to be ''flat and fabulous'' then chuck the bras !
