Braca test

Apologies if I have this wrong but I am still trying to navigate this site. I was diagnosed on 9/12 this year and have a very strong family history losing both my mum and grandmother. I have found out that my mum didn't have the BRACA gene but it is possible for my 21 yr old daughter to make a check. When you have surgery do they check me to see if I have the gene or as my mum didn't have it does that make me clear of it too. Sorry if I am rambling on,

Louisa

  • Hi Louisa

I am pretty new to this as well, I was only diagnosed on 24th November.   They didn't do any testing for me when I had my surgery.  My surgeon referred me to the Peter Mac Familial Caner Centre for me to do my gene testing.  I can take about a month or so for you to get an appointment though.

    Good luck with it all.

The tumours that I had were growing from the oestrogen in my body, so the tablets that I'm taking stop any oestrogen production. I'll be taking them for 5 years after my radiation finished. Hope that helps, Trace

  • Louisa my breast care nurse organized all that sometimes they are a wealth of information.

  • Thanks for the reply. What does oestrogen reactive mean sorry. I have been on troches for 2 years and they think that had something to do with my little lump. I have a lot to learn on my journey and I am sure I will get all the advise and support from you guys. Going in for a lumpectomy on 6/1

    Thanks again

Hi Louisa, sorry to hear of your diagnosis, not a nice way to join a network. However welcome to our group, You will get heaps of advice and support along your treatment time, and make some good connections.

When I had my mastectomy, the surgeon did all the genetic and other testing, and reported back to me the results within a couple of weeks following my surgery. I was fortunate enough to not have any genetic traits, however my tumours were oestrogen reactive, and I take an oestrogen inhibitor tablet each day.

Heres hoping that your family genetic testing is positive for you and your daughter.

Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ????????
