Boob shrinkage

hello again lovelies...one more question. So I’ve noticed the boobie that had radiation has started to shrink.  I was made aware of this, but when does it stop shrinking? I finished radiation 2 weeks ago. Thank you Nellie xx

  • @Hendrix my radiated boob post radiation was bigger like @Payne. That lasted for probably twelve months or more. The hardness, soreness comes and goes.Thats fluid.  I can never ever lay on it. I had radiation October 2015. It now acts like a premenstrual boob, swells with fluid whenever it wants to, I'm post menopausal! I have recently noticed that it is smaller than the non radiated boob by maybe 1/4  of a cup size. But I put that down to weight gain over Xmas. The good boob got bigger not the annoying boob!  So it's only with me starring in the mirror comparing not the general public that it's noticeable. WHEN I loose this weight I imagine they will match in size again. Hope that helps Janine xo
  • Hi

I had bilateral mastectomies. Right was prophylactic. She (the surgeon) left me with slight mounds. The left will have radiation and she has made it slightly bigger. Her plan was that if I wanted any sort of expander in there after - it was ready to go and would allow for shrinking with radiation.

    Hope that made sense. X
  • @socoda thanks that is good to know..definitely will be raising it with the surgeon next week.
  • Hey Nellie, I didn't need any radiation but did have a single mastectomy with immediate recon. My surgeon told me that there had been a protocol bought in for the public system that surgery to the second breast to match it to the reconstructed breast would be performed approx 2 years after the first surgery. I am on the hospital list to have my operation some time before June - and June is the 2 year mark. This also allows for implants to soften and drop so the surgeon can see if there are any dents, areas that need filling. I have a pocket underneath my implant that she wants to fill with the fat graft and don't know if she is planning on doing any around the implant but will find out when I get my call up for hospital. And can totally understand the two oranges. ;)

  • @socoda interesting thanks...I’d rather 2 oranges lol I spoke to breast care nurse and she said they probably wouldn’t do anything for at least 12 months if not longer because of radiation/shrinkage. How long has it been since your last Radiation?
  • Hey Nellie, @Hendrix have a word to your surgeon about fat grafting - I am having a reduction from my natural breast and then fat grafting to my foob to even and plump it up - also have the bonus of losing some fat from my stomach at the same time - wooohoooooo!!!!! I will have to pay approx $1000-00 to have it done on one breast. Can't hurt to ask. Your mandarin can be grapefruitified!!! Xx

  • My sisters neighbor is a BC survivor 11years now and when I spoke to her before starting my journey, her affected boob was so much smaller than her other one...but it didn’t bother her.  I’m single and would like to meet someone I do not want one side to be a mandarin and the other a grapefruit :( Lol
  • Hi @Hendrix, my affected boob swelled and became firmer and sore, still like that and finished radio in May.  I guess I have the shrinkage to look forward to.  This BC thing is full of hidden treasures just waiting for you to discover
  • hi Hendrix I am not sure I had a bilateral mastectomy and I have no idea but I am sure once others see this they will respond ...
