Bone scans, Ct??

Hi to all.

Just a quick question.

I read a lot if posts where bone scans, CT etc ate mentioned.

I've never once been spoken to about this. I'm 4 megs post ops. Skipped chemo & doing radiation.

Is this unusual not to be checked over with these tests. Blood results always good. Cancer fully removed with lumpectomy, clear margins etc. 14 clear nodes removed.

Love some feedback on this. Are they just happy with things do far so they don't worry about searching further afield, lol.

Cheers, Karen ??

  • I had breast conserving operation for grade two and micrometer in lymph gland.  I didn't have any scans or blood tests -- I had a rib scan as half way through radiation they discovered one rib a bit bigger which was nothing.  I've had a blood test about in the last year and two years post diagnosis.   I have appts twice year with oncologist who showed me best practice follow up is ultra sound and mammagram of breasts as well as physical exam: see my surgeon who looks at my breast results every year : I quite like this as I feel she is highly skilled as well as 'that's a (little growth) very common and we need to do nothing about it'   Best wishes

Hi Karen, everyone has different treatments according to their individual diagnosis. Have a chat to your breast care nurse, as she will be able to give you good advice according to your diagnosis. Sending you a cuddle, Trace ??????

  • Hi,

I felt the same way, the doctors haven't even given me a blood test since April when I had my operation.  When I went in for a regular appointment recently I mentioned that I thought I could feel another lump, so they sent me for an ultrasound and thankfully it was clear.  But no one has looked to see if there is any cancer in the rest of me, they must just be happy that the lymph nodes were clear I guess.

    cheers

  • I had the bone, brain, liver scans after my sentinel biopsy showed lymph involvement.

If you have no lymph involvement sounds like they don't do the tests I guess.

probably also depends on cancer grade? Just a guess.

  • Hi Karen, bone scan & CT are only necessary for detecting and staging if a cancer has spread. Your blood tests, chest X-ray, lymph node results and any suspicious signs will lead the docs in that direction if it is required. My docs only did them when I was struggling to understand why my friends bc was smaller than mine but had already spread. This disease is so random. I basically put myself through 2 not very nice tests just so the docs could put my mind at rest. If this is bothering you, talk to your team, they really want to help you.

you've got really good news with tumour clearance and no spread detected to your lymph nodes. Be encouraged with how well things have gone, but don't be afraid to question your team, take a friend along for support when you have that discussion ??

    Good luck
