Bit of a shock

I recently found a lump in my breast. I use to check all the time like you do, but never expected to find anything. I then went and had a mamagram and biopsy. I had DCIS. Further investigation found that it was also in an auxillary lymph node.

I am 40yrs old and no family history of breast cancer.

Everything has gone so fast which is great. My specialist has acted so quickly. Havnt had much time to think which is good.

I chose to have a masectomy not a lumpectomy. I just wanted it gone.

I have also had an auxillay disection. I have been told i have stage 3 breast cancer and am to start chemotheropy soon.

I have been positive through this experience but i must say when your on your own and you see older people, thats what you want. You just want to grow old with your husband and watch your children grow.

I am trying to stay positive. I know by reading other peoples stories will help me through this. My husband has been wonderful.

I just want to say to all those women and men that have faced or are facing cancer my love goes out to you all. Stay strong. Big hug :)

I'm so sorry that you have to go through this.  It's good to know that you have support because they will make it that little bit easier for you.  I've gone through the whole mastectomy, axillary clearance, fertility clinic stuff like many other people and I'm up to the chemotherapy stage now.  It's good to know that we can go on this journey together and be stronger at the end of it.

Take care and good luck xxx

  • My story is quite similar in that I also have no family history, cancer is stage 3 and after my mastectomy my chemo starts next Wednesday. Now that the dust has settled a bit and I have a little more knowledge, I have come to realise that breast cancer is a Very treatable disease.

In life I have often followed advice I received many years ago... I don't recall who said this to me, but somehow it stuck.  It went like this: How do you eat an elephant?....Mouthful by mouthful!  My best friend, who started her bc journey 4 1/2 yrs ago loved this and quoted it many times. Now that it is my turn I approach this in the same manner. I know we can do this!!!

Remember that sooo many have good outcomes.

Have faith, you too are strong  xox
