Beginning clinical trial

I'm newly diagnosed and experiencing a very frustrating lag in getting diagnosis and treatment. I found the lump in January and was diagnosed 8 weeks later. By the time I get chemo on April the 1st it will be 11 weeks.

I am getting chemo before surgery as I'm on this clinical trial. Is anyone else on it with TNBC?

  • Thanks Michelle,

Yes I was taken off the Curcummin because it interfered with the chemo but the others are ok. I have to say I'm feeling pretty good and have kept up my running and gym program which is great.

I don't have a port so far but I try to drink plenty of water before I go so my veins are plump:) You?

  • Good luck with starting chemo this week - thinking of you.

Have been reading your blog and really enjoying your positivity - it helps on so many levels.  Glad you have such great family and friends as back-up.

Jenny, on the 5-to-Thrive post, just check with your Medical Oncologist about supplements during chemo.  Some can interfere.  My MO told me that supplements also feed the bad cells, and put me off them completely. Worth checking out.

Are you having a port?  All the best.  Michelle xx

  • Thanks Mandy,

I'm in Warranwood, in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I start chemo in a weeks time so will have more info then I think. All of the info I've received so far has gone in one ear and out the other mostly.

Blog posts 3 and 4 on my blog have a bit of a description of it. Post #3 has medical jargon and on blog post #4 it's an overview of the success rate of the intitial test on 14 people. It's no use to you as you've already begun treatment but it might be interesting for you to read it:)

Thanks for contacting me I appreciate it!

  • Hi Jenny So sorry that you are joining us here but you will find a wealth of support from these amazing women. I too am Triple Negative and currently going through chemo. I would be interested to hear more about your trial as I have read quite a bit about the success of Carboplatin in the states. Where are you situated? I am about to get a second opinion regarding adding Carbo to the standard FEC/Docetaxol that I am having. Best of luck with your treatment. Mandy xxx
  • Thanks so much Michelle I really appreciate it. So much advice comes from people iwth different cancer types or different options and I find it hard to listen to it all!

  • As another TNBC, I have read about your clinical trial with interest, especially as my chemo was the same as yours - Carboplatin and Taxol.  Mine was given post-surgery though.  On the TNBC Foundation (USA) website, a lot of women are having chemo first, and getting great results. Australia is right up there with the latest developments for TNBC, so you obviously have a good team of doctors.  The waiting is always the worst part of our treatment, but if you get the expected results it will have been worth it!  Just for the record, I am 2 years from diagnosis now, and feeling strong and healthy again, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Also, I found the chemo itself a lot easier than I expected.

Only a week now until you begin - all the very best - keep posting and let us know how you are going.  Big hug.  Michelle xx
