well...I had my lumpectomy last Friday with 3 nodes taken. I just got home from getting results and my tumour is a lobular kind which was 6cm and 2 out of the 3 tested positive :( I now feel like my death warrent has been signed. Im having a mastectomy with axillary clearance in 2 days. Im scared out of my wits. Have any of you ladies been though this tough time and came out the other side? I feel like my end is now nearing :( They have also said im ER and PR positive. Her2 negative. Is that a good sign? Ill also be having 18 weeks of Chemo ( every 3 weeks) and radiation plus hormone treatment which Im assuming is Tamoxifen? Please give me some hope because Im falling in a heap :(

This is not a death warrant. Your cancer is still very treatable. I have a had a mastectomy and 5 out of 8 nodes were positive for cancer with me. The fact that your cancer was ER and PR positive is the best news you could have as this means hormone therapy (just one tablet a day) is very effective in preventing a cancer recurrence. Your doctors are the best people to listen to regarding your treatment and they will recommend the most effective treatment for you. I have just finished 18 weeks of Chemo and it is very doable and not as bad as I expected. It is 4 weeks since my last Chemo and I feel almost normal ( except for lack of hair! ). I have had 6 radiotherapy treatments, 19 to go. I am finding this part of treatment a breeze compared to chemo and the staff are absolutely wonderful. I will start hormone therapy after radiotherapy is complete in 4 weeks time. Then it is on with the rest of my life. With a healthly diet and regular exercise I have a very good chance of never having a problem cancer wise again. This can be you too! There is every reason to believe that you will be well again with the treatment that is available to us. I got through by concentrating on each stage one step at a time. Try to just concentrate on getting through the surgery for now. Organise what you need to take to hospital etc. Keep busy and everything happens faster than you think. I cannot believe how quickly my treatment has happened. This is just a detour in life. One we could all do without but you do get through it and life can be wonderful even along the way. I have been overwhelmed with the love and help I have been offered during my treatment. Look for the positives they are there! Hello Jodie,I just wanted to let you know that mine was ER and PR positive and HER2 negative,and this is a much better diagnosis.As Deanne said,it is treated with hormone tablets very effectively after what other treatment you will have.I had a mastectomy,and have just started my chemo.I try to concentrate on things I need to do for myself like look after my diet and I exercise by walking every day.Just take one day at a time,and try to see it as a bump in the road of life!I was petrified when I was first diagnosed,and I turned to this network for support,even though I have a wonderful family too.The ladies on here are awesome,and have helped me so much.Take care.Robyn xxx

Try not to worry too much about the mastectomy.I was so scared.it was the first time I had ever been in a hospital in my life.One of the ladies on here said to me"it is very doable and not as painful as you think" and do u know what,she was right.I only needed a strong painkiller the day after my operation,and I came home on Panadol after 3 days.I never really had much pain,the worst thing was sleeping on my back until my stitches came out.I got my drains out in hospital,and even though I know a lot of ladies come home with them in,maybe you won't,and even if you do,I'm sure you will be fine.They don't hurt.PLease don't worry too much Jodie.I am sure in a couple of weeks you will be on here reassuring someone else who is afraid!!!!xox

wow tanya,yours is so simular to me.

I cant seem to find alot of information around about lobular cancer. ive been researching but cant find alot of info. Not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing.

Keep in contact and ill be thinking of you Thursday. My chemo starts the day before your surgery xx

Hey Jodie , I was just reading your post and wanted to let you know my story so far as it seems we are twins in this sucky journey. I was diagnosed with lobular bc in late September , 2 weeks before my wedding. I had a lumpectomy and 3 nodes removed on the 10th October and got the results a week later. They removed an 8cm lump and no clearance and 2 nodes positive . I am booked in the PA hospital this Thursday 7th nov for a mastectomy and total node clearance. Having exact same treatment as you too, 18weeks chemo, 5 weeks radiation and hormone treatment as I am er and pr positive and her2 negative as well. I have found the best way to cope is to focus only on the next step. So for me that is the mastectomy. Once that's done, i will focus on the next step. I'm scared a lot , I have 7 children with my youngest being 4 & 5. But the kids keep it all real for me because they still have school, sport, etc so life goes on and we are trying to keep it as normal as possible. If you ever need to talk let me know as it seems we are in the same points pretty much in our journey to kick cancers but. Take care and good luck with everything.

I will trust the hospital nurses to be just divine as they usually are. If I get stuck or afraid or I want to know something I know that I can call the Cancer Council at Southport and I have already phoned them once. I am very happy to be reading along here and considering that I spend some time online each day it is nice to see other people who are happy to talk about breast cancer. It's hardly dinner table talk but here I think we could eat and talk about it. Perhaps the hospital will assign me a breast care nurse? Who knows?

Thank you. I'm off now, I have a 7.15am start at radiology. Thanks to you and everyone for giving me confidence. I'll have my Galaxy tablet with me so I'll let you know what's happening when I'm compos again :)

Hi Cas Its unfortunate you have been left in the dark. Unfair though it is, you should have called those breast care nurses as they have a lot of information that is important. However, the fact is you will be well looked after and just remember that if you aren't happy about anything related to your care, you need to be your own advocate and speak up. You are paying the bill at the end of the day! Feel free to ask any questions you have at any time. Some lovely lady will have the answers for you. I'm the same. I just want it gone. They removed my tumour last week but margins were so close and the size of the tumour had them recommending mastectomy and I agreed (as scared as I am) Ill have my other one off in a few months when chemo is finished, just to give me extra assurance. Mine is a lobular tumour which I believe are quite slow growing but they are hard to detect because they have tentacles.

Hi Jodie,

My doctor is the same. Mine is 6cm also and I want it gone, they want it gone and as you say it's all happening so fast that we don't have time to think or comprehend. I also won't be having reconstruction surgery straight away. I'm not that concerned about having to wear a prosthesis even for 6 to 12 months. I think I'm a little past low cut evening gowns and boob tubes hehehe (I'm 53).

Is your cancer aggressive? Mine is becoming nagging, a constant feeling of tired muscles and a tired arm. I've had a fine needle biopsy of a suspicious lymph gland but it was benign. Lets hope that the rest of them are the same. Yours as well.
