Back pain

i finished all my treatment on 1st March, so was pretty happy about that, as you can imagine. I had been suffering back pain for a couple of months. An X-ray the oncologist sent me for, came back clear. Good news, no cancer there but I was still in pain. I then went for a ct scan which didn't show anything either however my oncologist then told me, after having a bone density scan that I have oesteoporosis of the spine and that I could have microscopic fractures which a nuclear ct scan will show. Dr seems to think that I may have had osteoporosis before and that my chemo has made it worse. So on calcium and vitimin D tablets and something called Fontan which you take once a week. I have heard some nasty things about this tablet and its side effects. Has anyone been on this and what is your experience. I am due to take the first one tomorrow.

  • Thank you both for your replies. I had a look at the link you sent Jessica, it has helped me a lot. My diet has always been pretty good, probably need to step up the exercising a bit (I am quite lazy). I am on Tamoxifen for the next five years and I took the Fontan this morning with no ill effect thank god. It's side effects are heartburn, difficulty swallowing and reflux.

I feel the pain occasionally, worse in bed at night (think the mattress might be too soft). Today I went to the city and walked around which was fine. So looks like I shall be doing lots of walking in future!!

  • Oh damn, you really are having a hideous run of things aren't you. Sorry to be one of those info-shallow posts, I've never even heard of Fontan, but I really just wanted to e-hold your hand and throw a big hug out there. I hope your pain isn't too unmanagable today :( <3
