Sam09,
oh oh no I'm sorry my post has scared you, just like you I was scared but I can not tell you how glad I am that I finally got the port inserted, yes it was annoying, frustrating and a little scary having to have it done twice, but I don't think I would have coped well without it, but in saying that many do. My nurses were adamant that I have it inserted and I am forever grateful they were so vocal about it.
I finished my chemo in September, and still have the port inserted, just go every 6 weeks to have it flushed. Just keeping it in until I have my first lot of scans at the 1 year mark.
I started with a Personal Trainer last week, and am lifting 2kg weights with no issues (more issues with my left arm as that is my BC side, port is inserted on my right). Sometimes I feel the port in when I'm laying down or wearing certain clothing but most the time I forget it is there. No dr or physio has said I can't do weights while I have the port inserted. Obviously when it first went In I had to let my body adjust to it but all good since.
I recommend if you can get it in to do it, I know your scared but it will save your sanity and veins. The amount of blood tests I had I lost count, but my port was used for them all.
Message me if you like, I'm happy to chat if you have any questions, all up I had a lumpectomy and did 4x AC and 12 x Paclitaxol, and 33 radiation.
much love to you, we are all here if you need to vent, question or just chat to. xx
