arimidex

well i was this FUN loving energised person...having survived 2 kids, a cesearian birth for one, a hysterectomy, multiple tooth surgeries, low grade breast cancer, radiation and...had an enormous amount of energy...and then...BOOM..3 months of being on arimidex has put all of the above in a category of its own. so much chest pain and neck pain and shoulder pain...think all of my past 57 years is a breeze compared to these 3 months...BUT i am (barely) alive and i suppose a good alternative :D

just cant seem to move, have no energy...i take Vid D, krill tabs, energy boosters, panadol osteo, caltrate and...looks like chemist wharehouse is making a fortune from me...and i am still in so much pain..please tell me i am not alone here and the next 4 years and 9 months is gonna get better..!!

  • Hi Whingy,   Cancer  was onchest wall, was 12DD/ or E Lumpectomy of 20mm grade 2, stage 2, clear margins, no node involvement,  er/pr pos, her 2 neg.  6 weeks of radiation.  Then radical hysterectomy.

49years young, fit healthy walking 15lkms per week, like you full of energy, self employed, busy mum of 3 all still at home.  Its a bummer.

I have just gone 12months since surgery.  Boob is now 12B cup, with other 12E cup, am on waiting list to have other boob reduced, about 30% to be removed.  Will also reduce my risk for this breast.

My GP perscribed sertraline 50mg, which I take 1/2 table per day,  if I take a full tablet it may be better but is ok with what I am taking. I forgot to take it today and am sitting here with the odd flush, but still nothing like it was.  Was told I had menopause extra bad as I was not in menopause prior to hysterectomy/ooperectomy, so it came on like a steam train when the Arimidex was added.  Yep it's a bummer.

    Ask away anything to help.

  • Hey Viv

thanks for your reply...i think the thing that gets us 'cancer sistas' thru this is the support and KNOWING just what we are all going thru, no matter who you are with or love or support..NOBODY can understand our symptoms or our anxieties or our pain so thanks so much for being here for me for this new challenge.

i will make an appointment to see my onco and see if i can switch to Femara and hope that i can feel the same way as you do. also could you let me know what your doc prescribed for yoru hot flushes. you say 1/2 a tab of what??

which state are you in and can i ask what stage cancer did you have so that i can identify if we are at the same level of dosages.

    thanks again

    Whingy :D

  • Hello Whingy, well that was me 1 month ago.  I was put into surgical menopause then onto Arimidex.  Was as you described, horrid.  Hip pain, shoulder, neck, knees, hands, fingers the lot.  5months between visit to Oncologist, had a whinge, put me onto Femara, same drug but I am 90% better.  Still get stiff, but nothing like I was, I am on the same vitamins as you, also glucosamine.  Was taking 6 panadol oestos per day, now I only take once or twice a week at night when joints are a bad.  Hot flushes were also bad,  my GP has given me a script for this and now I take 1/2 tablet a day, now bearable.

Well thats me, sharing the journey.
