Arimidex and osteoporosis

Hi, I’m just about to start Arimidex.  I am in the osteopenia range after having prolia for the last couple of years to treat osteoporosis and a couple of crush fractures. My surgeon thinks with continued prolia and calcium and vitamin d supplements I should be okay.  How have others gone with this combo. Any other supplements recommended to prevent bone loss?
  • Hi there
I have been on AIs for 18 months.
My bone density scan showed osteopenia and I saw an endocrinologist who prescribed actonel taken orally once a week.
He also give me a list of calcium rich foods to try and work into my diet.
I have followed the dietary suggestions , I am lucky I have no issues with dairy or any food in fact.
I was also advised that weight bearing exercises are important so I got a programme from an exercise physiologist I follow.
    I am 64.
Take care - no one said this stuff was easy ☹️
  • Dear @Atlantic and @Julez1958,
I am with you ladies on the ostopenia front, with the need to take medication and action to prevent cancer return and osteoporosis lol. My medication combo is Anastrozole to suppress hormone production, Alendronate (weekly tablet) to prevent osteo, Caltrate bone & muscle tablets to supplement calcium. And exercising (need to do more!) to keep down weight and strengthen bones. Five years and all good so far.
    Go girls go, and

  • Hi @Julez1958 @jennyss
its a bit of a juggling act when you have other health considerations but comforting to know that you two are going well
  • Hi before I started my hormone tablet I had a bone scan which showed ostopina my oncologist wanted me to have acid infusion and to think about it.
I spoke to my regular Dr and she said no way side effects are bad i don't even give my patients with oesophagus that.
She sent me to bone specialist and he agreed and put me on actonel
Of course before taking I goggled side effects which was oesophagus cancer so I rang him before taking as I had concerns as I had scaring on my oesophagus anyway from acid reflux.
Anyway had endoscopy 10 weeks ago which oesophagus very red Nd put on pantazole twice a day .Went back for a follow up endoscopy now scared as done biopsy for Barrett's.
Also now will need to change my drugs for osteopina which I think will be either prolia or acid infusion and side effects sound awful one of them your jaw bone dying.
I know I'm ranting SORRY but I don't want to take anymore drugs and my guality of life effected it's like you take one drug which cures what it's for but end up with something else.

Anyway had ostopina and not taken drugs for it and been ok .
