Anyone from Canberra

Hello,

I was wondering if there is anyone from Canberra. If yes, can you please tell me who is treating you and how you find your doctor?

19 years ago when I was 18yo, I had 7cm fibroid removed from my left breast. Then 4 years ago I had another lump in the same spot. Every 6 months I had it checked by my GP and by the ultrasound and every time I was reasured that it was fibroid. I changed my GP and he didnt ignore me but send to breast specialist. I was then operated on 8 weeks ago.

Subsequently I have been diagnosed with bordeline phylloide tumor and result of the histopathology says they margins are involved.

During my follow up visit, my breast specialist suggested that actually its nothing to worry about and that is nearly like a fibroid. He then said that I dont need the follow up surgery but "we may remove some scar tissue' just in case.

What I read abour bordeline tumors is that at least 1cm of CLEAR margins should be removed.

What do you think girls? It has been 8 weeks since my first surgery and my next one is scheduled for the 27th January. Its a bit  long break between both surgeries, isnt it? I think I would prefer if my surgeon was treating my case bit more seriously.

Please advise,

Maggie

  • Hi Maggie,

I know that you wrote your post over a year ago, but I've just joined and I live in Yass. I had surgery to remove what had been diagnosed as a fibroadenoma from a core biopsy about 4 weeks ago. When I saw my breast surgeon prior to surgery she suggested it may actually be a phyllodes due to it fast growth over the past year and said then that she would take 1cm clear margins. As it turned out it was a benign phyllodes and it had clear margins so it was all contained. I now will have yearly ultrasound and checkups with my surgeon and bi yearly mammograms. If its any help for future appointments for you I see Dr Carolyn Cho at Deakin. Hope you are doing ok now.
