Another newbie who's wondering what happened to May!

After finding a lump on going to bed Easter Sunday night and being 12 days post mastectomy I'm wondering where the month of May went!!

Although usually fairly decisive I'm amazed to have made so many decisions (vaguely remembered) in such a short time and so many more to come!!  Grade 3, 4 lymph nodes involved, ER+PR+ and waiting FISH test on HER2 means now choosing oncologist and radiologist. Given the amazing 'on-call' support of my GP, surgeon and plastic surgeon so far I am confidant that whoever we go with will be just as positive to work with.

Maybeall the decisions are the reason I don't seem to have" hit the wall" - keeping me too busy! Given that I travel 200km for each appointment or treatment and that I'm a confessed workaholic now taking leave, reality will probably strike soon.

Sorry for the rambling but I have really appreciated reading others' blog entries and felt it only fair to acknowledge that.

Cheers?

  • Hi Dette,

My name is Viv and I was diagnosed in April. I had a mastectomy on May23rd. I was never given the chance to have a lumpectomy or radiation. I had a very large area of calcification around the node so the surgeon said I had to have a mastectomy. That has been hard to deal with still but each day gets easier. I was given exercises to do and I do them religeously. They make a difference. I am getting cording which is quite painful but massage helps ( I do this myself ). All I can say is that you may not hit the wall at all. I know it is a busy time for you and you tend to focus on that and just getting through each decison. It was kind of like that for me, " ok, that's done, now what"s next? " I have found everyone I have come in contact with regarding this has been  warm and friendly and I do hope that is your experience. You may have hard choices to make along your journey but the ladies on this site are always here to talk to and give good advice and support. Let me know how you are doing and I wish you all the best for whatever this journey brings you. Sending good vibes your way Dette. I will look out for your blogs xx

Cath I'm a little jealous that you've already met yours and have your plan so will really stay tuned!

  • Hi Cath

Thank you so much for your reply and welcome.

Although I have always been a reticent participant in the many previous opportunities to 'blog' both through my work and personal life, I was quite excited to see a comment and think I could become 'addicted'! As I said the support I feel from just reading stirred me to take the initial plunge and I'm really looking forward to building friendships through this network.

Cath, my journey so far seems easy compared to yours so I am already in awe of your positivity. It will be interesting to see how similar our journeys are from here.

  • Hi Dette

I'm fairly new on here and at the same point as you. I'm also 12 days post mastectomy, had 4 nodes postitive and hormone positive, was her2 neg.

I have found this site to be an amazing source of information and insperation, although I have only posted a couple of times. I reckon if you have any questions the wonderful ladies on here are the people to ask.

All the best for your journey and welcome to the "club".
