Anne Weeks has cancer for 6 days.

5th August
I was told my breast lump is cancer.

10 August
My left breast lumpectomy is tomoro Thurs at 7am at the Mater Nth Sydney. Pls pray it has not spread and they get it all.

11 August
In ward now and home tomoro. Good news no lymph nodes removed just sentinel node for analysis. So I had cancer for 6 days!

12 August
I'm home now and panadol is removing all pain. PTL :-)

14 August
I'm recovering well at home after my surgery. Might pop up to church briefly for morning tea btwn the services... Ian is husbanding me brilliantly and a steady but manageable stream of flowers, fruit and a perfumed cyclamen came yesterday with lovely visitors. Also very encouraging phone calls! Thank you, Lord Jesus! ?

Facing chemotherapy then radiotherapy as they found cancer in a lymph node beside the lump. Lump high grade/ fast growing. Surgeon says no need to remove underarm lymph nodes though. So this may take a bit longer to get through... 6 months?

Off to work at the ACC office! Yes, my cancer has been removed and the chemo and radio and hormone blockers are just to keep it that way :-)

22 August at 12:44
Need to see my psychiatrist - because of chemo -> menopause etc. Rang for appt - "Sept 26?" I shuddered and said I'd take it but prefer a cancellation. They rang back later "3:30pm today?" YES! Another eg that God is good. :-)

  1. CT scan next Monday to check if any other tumours in my body.
  2. IV Chemo starting Tuesday 13th September at the Mater 'Cottage' with a cold cap on, then every 3rd Tuesday for 6 cycles.
  3. Herceptin starting as soon as permission from federal gov comes thru - maybe with 2nd chemo infusion.
  4. Radiotherapy after chemo finished. No further surgery atm.
  5. Holiday with my long-suffering Ian btwn 1 & 2 I hope! I'm tired but all is well. Resting in my Saviour's love.

  • Hi Kathy,

ACC is Assembly of Confessing Congregations within the Uniting Church in Australia. It's an internal reform movement - most mainstream denominations have them, though they rarely make it into the secular media... and if we do it can be to be ridiculed as extremists, sigh. Every human organisation goes pear-shaped at times and churches are no different. Guess cancer networks have their foibles too - but I'm not that interested in that atm, lol!

Everything happened so fast with my diagnosis and ectomy that I really wasn't scared - more in shock, I guess! Didn't feel alone either. My husband is a minister so we've been on this journey several times before - all the way to the funeral for one dear friend in Nana Glen. :-( However despite the 7 out of 38 dying every day in Australia, I am convinced this won't kill me. I had a deep outpouring of grief at a huge meeting in Sydney recently (called ONE ; 10,000 Christians packed the Sydney Entertainment Centre) when the speaker laboured the point that in a crowd that size, though most were < 40, some would not live to 2012. Our youth pastor hugged and held me and prayed for me, as I wrestled with wanting to be in heaven BUT NOT YET!! I am determined to see my grandchildren born (none even conceived yet).

Take it one day at a time? Yes,  Matthew 6:34 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB):

34 Therefore don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

    xx

    Anne

  • Hi again, knew I'd find you somewhere, just a matter of being a great little detective (or just a nosey sticky-beak :)

You've had a rough trot haven't you?  I can't relate to your chemo or radiotherapy as I had my mastectomy and complete node removal and was fortunate in as much that the bloody thing hadn't gone into them so I am on Arimidex for 5 years.

There are plenty of ladies here who have been where you are at the moment.  We are all on the same journey, just at various stages.

How are things going with you now ... have you been on your holiday yet? If not make sure you enjoy yoursef when you go.

    Take care

    Luv .. Shirl x0x0x

  • Chemo 1 IV (TC - the H is coming next cycle) with cold cap.

I was shivering but did not feel cold. If this does not work, doesn't matter - the cold cap is only to preserve my head of hair. Ah vanity, vanity, all is vanity! ;-)

    Going fine since - I ? steroids!
