And so do I celebrate?

Last week I had my last session of radiotherapy and the young guy said to me hope I never see you again , well I thought the feeling is quite mutual. I couldnt believe I didnt have to do the daily drive to flash the boobs. I felt strange empty ? should I celebrate ?Everyone says will you party?  No I was greatful just to be living. Yesterday I turned 52 and today is my 30th wedding anniversary, did I celebrate ? No I couldnt I was just greatful Im living I just thought I will be happy when I have my next birthday and next anniversary.Im just happy to live and to have made new friends and value small things thats what I celebrate this year. And the fact my daughter told me the body cream she gave me for my birthday is for OLD SKIN. Thats a celebration alone..                           love to all

  • I'm back on line after the trivia night with a belated but heart-felt happy birthday and happy anniversary!

Finishing treatment is indeed a milestone and something to celebrate, but perhaps you felt like I did - a bit disjointed .... you get in such a routine, it becomes so much part of your life, that when you finally reach the end - silly as this sounds - I felt lost!

I said this a few weeks ago at a session I was involved in....I mentioned that I felt that there isn't enough acknowledgement or support of that "lost" feeling after treatment and definitely not enough support for people who had to either return to or start a job.

So don't think you're silly or anything like that - I felt exactly the same way...I think you've done a great job getting through (and working!) and I agree with you - I was just happy to celebrate the fact I was here to mark these special occasions.

Hi Adean, Happy Birthday! I hope that the 'strangely empty' feelings you are having after Radio will soon fade and you can look forward to the simple things again including taking the time out for yourself and maybe even moisturising with the 'OLD SKIN' body cream :-)

  • Hi Adean, you know what, that young guy said exactly the same thing to me. It must be his standard line to people on their last day. I guess he was just saying I hope you don't get cancer again. I didn't really celebrate either and I too am feeling quietly grateful that it's all over. In fact I'm feeling really positive about the future and just want to get on with my life. Although there is a tiny fear in the back of my mind that I guess will never go away. I guess it motivates me to keep chomping on my vegies and sipping the green tea. Take care, Janet. :)
