Anastrozole

What a nasty, horrid pill. Only into my third week. Does it get better? How long does it take to improve? Margaret

  • My symptoms were mild until month 6 when the knees and shoulders really hurt. Sleepless/ restless nights seem to be connected. I plan to stick to a big exercise program to see if it helps but will stop if it really alters my quality of life. My oncologist told us that the risk of recurrence is reduced by only a few percent in many cases so I will check with him in January. I wonder if having a break for a few weeks has any benefits or disadvantages.
  • I have been on Arimidex for 3 months, the only thing I've noticed is that the hot flushes are more intense. The first 3 weeks I was very moody but that has eased off thankfully. I must be one of the lucky ones, but of course there are long term side effects, time will tell how these have affected me. Hope it eases for you, if not, the oncologist should be able to change you onto something else. All the best,

  • I have read 46% of women don't stay on this drug. Not sure what to believe, perhaps they don't know themselves. I have a friend who has no side effects and she is really worried, because they also say that those who have more severe side effects have less recurrance. Is this because the drug is really working??

All I know is that I will pop this little pink pill until they tell me to stop.

    Take care

  • I have just read through other blogs and it seems they all have side effects. My doctor said 70% of women have no side effects. Is that just a figure to make me keep taking it or is it accurate data? I can imagine the oncologist saying come back in 5 months, although he did mention changing to another if it didn't suit. See what happens in next two weeks.

  • I stuck with Arimidex for 5 months, no it didn't get any better. I am now on Femara, which is slighlty better and I can tolerate it a bit more than Arimidex.
