Hi Eileen. You'll appreciate the port as time goes on. It makes chemo much easier. Having time frames & dates is also helpful.
Be prepared for the port site to be quite swollen & tender. I wasn't expecting it, & woke up feeling like I had a third breast. It took a couple of weeks to settle. I've recently seen others on the site discuss the use of Emla patches prior to each chemo. This is a local anaesthetic patch. I never had it, but would certainly suggest it for at least the 1st chemo, as the site will still be tender. It certainly is operater dependant, I had some episodes where it hurt quite a bit, but I had a port flush a couple of weeks ago ( I haven't had mine removed yet) and barely felt a thing.
Take care, Lyn
