- Avoid coffee, chocolate, spicy food, big meals, sit up after you eat, sleep with another pillow so you are more propped up. These will all help with reflux. Good luck.
- NeMember@Deanne I am only using Somach when my reflux flares up and that isn't often because over the years I have managed to avoid the foods/drinks that fuels it.. I am usually only on it for the recommended 6 to 7 days without break and then when my reflux subsides and my stomach heals up I stop taking it. Thanks for the information though, I was not aware of the interference with calcium etc. :)
- submarineMemberI had terrible reflux too, and my oncologist prescribed Somach, and I have been fine since taking it.
I had also used Buscopan before getting a prescription and it had helped a lot.
Hope you feel better soon xx - DeanneMemberHi @Ne,
I am not sure how much you use Somac, but many reflux meds (nexium too), are linked with an increased risk of osteoporosis, if used long term (we are talking years not just short periods of time like while on chemo). They can interfere with the absorption of calcium and hence cause bone loss. It is definitely ONLY if used consistently for years, not just short term use. But I thought I would mention it in case you were not aware of this and maybe it could be adding to your bone loss situation. - NeMemberI have struggled with reflux even before bc. Always use Somach (active ingredient Pantoprazole). It is the best medicine I find but you will need a script.
- Christina_55MemberHi Gerry, I've changed to Nexium also. I had terrible reflux. It has settled quite a lot. Maybe I'll see you at LGH. Christina
- Ro10Member@Tilley I'm so sorry to hear you are having to have chemo while you are pregnant.
I had bad heartburn towards the end of my pregnancy but I found that quickeze, eating yoghurt and drinking milk was enough. My heartburn would actually wake me up in the night and I would sometimes get up and drink milk to make it go away! I also found that if I ate sweet or spicy foods, it got really bad. I have heard that drinking baking soda in water can help but not sure if this is ok during pregnancy. - TilleyMemberAny diet tips here - I'm 22 weeks pregnant and undergoing the chemo so my medication options are limited to Mylanta which isn't really doing the trick. I've heard broth is good. Any other tips ladies?
- melclarityMemberHave to concur!!! NEXIUM nothing else touched the side of the heartburn/reflux, wouldnt use anything else. It was the BEST! and what the Oncologist recommends. x Melinda
