Aching all over

Hi all, it's been a while since I was on here. I finished 8 rounds of chemo early dec last year then had my surgery & 5 weeks if rads. I was lucky & apart from aching muscles during my chemo that was about all I had BUT now when I thought I'd be at my best I'm like an old woman!! I find if I sit for too long my joints ache & feel so stiff & sore. Morning is the worst & I just can't stand it! My oncologist & surgeon have both assured me this can happen after having chemo - a long term effect & because I've been put into early menapause this cld also explain my stiffness & aches! Has anyone else experienced this or been told this cld happen?

  • Thanks it really helps to know that this is all part of it & I will definately give the magnesium & panadol osteo a go x
  • yep, all part of the menopausal effect I'm afraid. My fingers and ankles were dreadful at the beginning but they have seriously eased up over 12 months and now I just cope with knees/elbows aching pretty much all the time and if that's all I have to bear to stay alive then it's ok. I take Glucosamine, Panadol Osteo and Magnesium. All seems to help, I also have a great osteopath who works magic every 3 months to loosen me up and keep me sane :P

  • Take some omega 3 fish oil tablets and some magnesium. That will help. You also have to do some exercise every day. A gentle walk to start with out in the open air helps greatly. Green tea will help too.

  • The fish oil will help and so will ginger. Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory. You could try ginger tea or including it in your meals. We had a lot of ginger in a stir fry last night and i could feel the difference this morning! Exercise does help to get everything moving too. I am having trouble with my lymph system at the moment and lymphatic massage is easing the discomfort in my joints as is aqua aerobics. It is hard to know what the exact cause is but I find the more I move the better I feel. Deanne xxx
  • Yes I'm experiencing the same, especially in the morning, and getting cramps in my calves at night. Thought it might be the tamoxifen but I don't know what's caused from treatment or early menopause either!
  • Thank you Maria I will definately look into the fish oil tablets & yes I guess it will take time to get all those toxins out! I can't wait to feel back to normal again - or as close to normal as possible!
  • After all the toxins that have been in your body, it will take some time for it all to be detoxed. Not sure if you are on any other meds. I can relate to the dreadful achey stiff joints. The one thing I found helped was to start taking fish oil tablets. Talk to your doctor, oncologist or a naturopath.

It will pass but it will take time, be mindful of what you are eating. Gentle daily exercise will help too. A warm bath with epsom salt should help ease the pain and relax you.

    All the very best.
