AC Chemo - Days 12 - 14 (still tummy troubles and a freaky period)

Well, for some reason regardless of how carefull I am with food my tummy is still playing up and I am finding that pretty much any attempt at exercise or walking is resulting in my needing to hit to loo in a matter of minutes...

Good news is as days progressed stools are firming up but still having this irritated tummy that reacts to most movement with too many bowel movements has resulted in both a fissure and hemmoroids so I am now preoccupied with trying to somehow heal them before my 2nd round of Chemo in a week's time.

I only wish I was able to walk a bit as seriously worried all this sitting will bring on blood clots... well freaking out about it but there is only so much I can do so thus far just making sure I drink large amounts of water to compensate..

I have officially hit the dreaded neutropenia middle of week 2 so also am preoccupied with mouth hygiene and avoiding any exposure to bugs so wearing face mask every time I venture outside... It seems that with it have come cracked bloody heels - and it literaly happened overnight so now making sure I moisturise them arround the clock and check for signs of infection.  Also making an appearance is very sensitive skin on my hands - seems there is such thing as washing one's hands too much and in the past 2 days small blisters have also made an appearance in the same area. As the skin is very irritated and bumpy on my hands it does make some kitchen chores a tad difficult as is hand washing but I am dealing with it and using a castor oil/zinc cream to try protect the hands as much as possible as this is simply not getting better. But I guess that is what neutropenia is about so just hoping my body bounces back out of it fast so I can heal before the next round of AC on the 6th.

One thing that really freaked me out was my period starting late on in the day on day 11 as frankly this peroiod has been like none before it (and considering I started having them at the age of 10 I thought I have seen everything by now). It started with some very weird looking dark brown almost black staining of my underwear followed by numerous blood clots over a 24 hour period. I have to say that expeling a clot some 7x7cm in size out of my body at one point absolutely freaked me out. I do have extreme periods normally (extremely heavy, painfull and huge blood loss) but never experienced anything like this. Weirdly enough, 48 hours into it this one is not all that heavy (so hoping it stays that way and that those freaky clots do not repeat)

All in all I am concentrating my efforts on trying to heal as much as possible so I can shape up for the next round.

  • Hi JD48, sounds like some things are slightly better. I have everything crossed for you. If your worried about clots try some exercises sitting down like you would do in a long haul plane flight, at least that way you are still doing circulatory exercises! Hoping everything settles down for you for the 6th. Best wishes Xx Cath

  • LOL - not like we have much choice about resting - body does what it wants to do and since I am in the house half the time I find myself dozing off anyway...

Managing short strolls arround The house today so hoping it is my body's way of saying tummy may be on the mend :)

Only wish backside would mend too...

  • That is the plan - thank you ??

Still trying real hard to keep infections at bay and avoid the hospital if at all possible...

  • Doesn't  sound like much fun. As I was told most infections come from within. You relax a bit after the 1st round. Rest as needed. Kath.

  • Its sort of living in a twilight zone between being well and being in hospital. Hang in there.
