A year in my garden
The cancer came.
I sat in the garden and cried into the asparagus, wondering if I would live to eat the tender spears.
Through chemotherapy the garden offered up ginger for nausea and watercress ...

Thanks so much for your comment. As a fellow gardener I feel your pain. People can think we're a bit strange the way our gardens feel like and extension of ourselves. When people asked me 'how can I help?' I invariably said, 'Weeding!' or some other garden task. It's not the same as being out there yourself, of course, but it always lifted my spirits. For my birthday my daughter organised a 'garden party' which involved lots of mulching on my behalf. Best present ever!
Of couse the most wonderful thing about gardens is how forgiving they are. You will be back there. It will take less time than you think to get it back into shape. Meanwhile, best wishes with your treatment and with getting out the other side and back into the dirt.
