8/8/2012 post surgery appointment... results

I'm ok, still a bit sore, my chest & under my arm feels a bit tight and uncomfortable. The wound is healing well.

Had appointment with my surgeon Dr. Bochner yesterday. Some of the pathology had come back.

Results:

  • Invasive ductual cancer
  • Grade 3
  • One lump was 40mm & the other 10mm
  • The breast margins were clear which is a good thing. The cancer hasn’t gone into my chest wall. Not hormonal: no progesterone or estrogen receptors on the cancer so now question is if it is HER2 +'ve or not.
  • 3 lymph nodes were removed; 2 lymph nodes were clear. 1 had .3mm deposit of cancer on it -
    I’m not requiring any further surgery to go for more lymph nodes… phew! as she believes it had just gone to that lymph & that she has got it all.

I have an appointment on the 16th of August with Oncologist re: starting chemo.

I feel like I have been in a whirlwind… picked up twirled around and spat out again.

    Thank you Jane, i have just been taking it day by day, amazingly feeling ok in myself.  Thank you for the advise.. i will ask away.  Don't have any questions at the moment though i can't belive how much information you receive at the begining & how many people have been through this. =) Justine xo

    Wow, this is all very new and recent for you! The first few days are shocking aren't they? There is such a sense of disbelief and fear. But things will definitely settle down once you know what the plan of attack is! Don't think too far ahead; just deal with things one day at a time. All the girls on this site have great first hand knowledge of what you're going through and have all experienced the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with diagnosis. Please ask lots of questions; knowing what is going to happen will make things easier. I've been through treatment twice; first when I was 34 and then again last year at 43. Chemo, radiation and surgery are all do-able!! You'll probably be surprised how much of a normal life you can maintain while going through all of this. A great sense of humour is definitely a big help also!! xx Jane
