1st Chemo

Hi Everyone,

Well I start my 6 rounds of chemo on Tuesday, 3 of FEC and 3 of Taxaotere, I'm hoping it will be nice to me. I've been reading your posts and making notes trying to be organised and ready, but how ready can you be for this?

It's off the shops for all the things you wonderful, wonderful ladies have said may help.

You girls will never know how much you have helped me through the past few weeks and for that I thank you.

Will update you later in the week.

Much love

Penny xx

  • Thanks Tonya, Will keep that in mind, feeling good today, do have the bad taste in my mouth but tic tacs intensity are helping. Xxx
  • Thanks Chris, it all went according to plan I guess.
  • Thanks Ann-Marie, I think I had my crying all out of the way over the past few weeks. The only cry I had was when i was leaving to go to and I said went in to say bye to my 20 yr daughter. She got upset and we had a cry together, otherwise I was pretty good.
  • Hi Maxene, Well I'm glad the 1st one is over, it was scary but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Nurses were lovely. Feeling okay so far. Xxxx
  • Hi Penny

I had the same chemo as you - finished Aug 15 this year. There are different side effects with each one . With FEC it was nausea, fatigue and constipation followed by the runs.  I lived on soup and toast and herbal tea.  It's hard to drink a lot of water when you feel sick but it really helps to flush everything out and get you feeling better.  I had my chemo on a Monday and was usually feeling ok by the weekend.  I took all the meds they offered me and made sure I got plenty of rest.

Emotionally the first treatment was the hardest for me. I was quite teary all that day. But once I got the first one out of the way I was much stronger for the rest.  You just get on with it. Each treatment brings you a step closer to the last one.

    Sending positive energy for Tuesday

  • Hi Penny, Wishing you luck for Tuesday. Hope everything goes well. We will all be thinking of you. Love Chris xx
  • Good luck for Tuesday. If you are out shopping then stock up on lemonade iceblocks, cans of vegie soup and dry crackers and lemon cordial. For some reason that's all I could eat on chemo.I couldn't drink water-your tastebuds go weird and you feel like your mouth is lined with fur.The first few days might be ok but it's day 3 -5 when it hits and you'll feel less than ordinary.Just do what's best for you on those days.

  • Hi Penny,

Just wishing you luck for Tuesday. Whatever happens we are all thinking of you. It is never easy embarking on chemo for the first time because of all the horror stories people tell you. You will be fine. Go with an open mind and face it head on! I had AC not FEC and I was quite scared when I had my first one. It's only natural and it will be over before you know it. You will be fine. Don't forget to post and let us know how you fared. Everyone is different but to share a common experience is often very comforting.

I'm now a 1/4 of the way through my second regime - Paclitaxol/herceptin and coping ok. A little tired but otherwise faring better that AC. I didn't realise how brutal AC was until I started this latest regime.  3 down 9 more to go! Then radiotherapy for 7 weeks!

Hang in there and I look forward to reading your updates.

Fingers and toes are crossed for you!
