The “journey” begins.
I was diagnosed with grade 2 IDC ER & PR + Her2- on 19/12. I am 50 years old, married with three teenagers at home, two homeschoolers, one working.
I work as a nurse for NDIS.
Getting the diagnosis just before Christmas was horrific.
So far this has been my plan.

Bone scan and dye CT scan 5th Jan ( all clear and no lymph activity)
Surgeons appt Jan 8th.

She was lovely and very respectful ( had sat in on a couple of her operations on my surgical rounds)
She talked me through the process and I felt a lot better after that. She also examined me and noted that the lump that was the issue is not actually the cancer, it’s sitting next to it. I have type D density and very fibrous.

She mentioned that it’s a tricky one to find and that she’ll need to follow a trail of breadcrumbs. Also mentioned that the cancer is sitting in a DCIS. I can’t find any info on others having that.
Today I get the carbon tracer injected and she said that will attach to the cancer so she can see what to take.
Next Tuesday I get the blue dye injection for the lymph node activity then Wednesday have the surgery.
Nothing happened then everything happened!

My surgeon recommended this site and I’ve been lurking for a bit but today thought I’d share my story.
I can’t believe this is happening and I’d love it to go away but it won’t and I need to remember how fortunate this happens in our public system.

- Yes a med onco.No talk of rad onco yet but was told definitely need rads.I suppose that’ll be a while after healing from the second surgery.My recovery is good except for a pulling sensation when my arm is lifted, can be quite sore. Will do some exercise they’ve recommended.
- Try & keep as busy as you can, relative to your recovery, following your first surgery, @MrsMorrisey xx. The time will fly, I reckon. ....
That is great that you are seeing your Onc too ... so is this the Medical Onc? Have they mentioned Rads as a possibility as well?

Just in case anyone is following this thread and it is helping others, my second surgery is 22 Feb., which will be 5 weeks from the first.So onco appt next week, surgery in 3 weeks.Can you tell I’m not working at the moment? Got a bit of time on my hands 😩 - Ok now I have an oncologist appt next Monday which will probably be before 2 nd surgery.When I enquired why see her prior to surgery she said if I didn’t get in now I’d have to wait til March.The oncologist received 9 referrals this morning just from my surgeon.I’m in a regional town and the nurse who assisted in my original biopsy back in Dec said 14 women had recieved a diagnosis that week!!So many of us going through this.

- I’m going well. Do you have a McGrath Breast Care Nurse? So good- can ask all the questions to her as they have lots of experience. (I asked to change my username)

If I’m honest I feel pretty good about things atm. Definitely had my moments as you may read in this thread 😳 but so much is out of our control in terms of timing etc.
just gotta wait really. - You’re not alone in your experience- mine is almost identical down to the dates, positive margins, only DCIS remaining and I’m 51.We’ll get there!!
- I literally had a week between the two so it's hard to give a good answer on that. I'm 10 days out from the second surgery and still sore but each day gets better. They did a good job of the surgery.
- @Mahjah thanks for your reply.Was your recovery a bit quicker 2 nd time round?I’m day 12 from first surgery and have almost full movement just with mild pain at the end of the day. Wound has healed well.Shame they have to open it again.
