Newly diagnosed
Hi
I'm 41 and was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of days ago. I'm waiting to see a surgeon and its all a bit unreal at the moment. I live at Mount Tamborine and would love it if anyone can...
Yes 2 hours there and 2 hours back. Eespecially annoying for a 5 minute checkup. My oncologist charged over $200 for initial consult but i only paid the gap. I had my s econd dose of chemo Thurs and had apptment with him before i had it and didnt have a bill. I am coping much better this time around. They give you good meds for the following 2 days and i can also take Pramin after which helps with nausea. I havent had to take Pramin this round yet. First dose i didnt cope so well but i also had surgery the day before to put port in so was prob feeling effects of that too. I dry reached a bit but the other end was the problem. I tried to tough it out but ended up a blithering mess and rang my onc nurse who then got my onc doc to ring me. All it took was two Gastro Stop tablets from chemist they workked like magic. Sorry if this is too much info but wish i had known makes life so much easier. I have 4 big doses (sorry dont even know the technical name yet im still a bit overwhelmed with it all) once every 3 weeks. Then not so strong doses once every week. Followed by 8 weeks of daily radiation mon-fri in Adelaide. I will have to stay in Adelaide for that as too much driving :( I have had single mastectomy and after treatment has finished i am having other one off and having both reconstructed all at same time. Wel i am hoping anyway as i have no idea of the cost involved yet. Just coping with one step at a time. As for my hair doc said 2 and 12 weeks and he was spot on. My initial blog was on this as i had to wear a hat last Monday and needed some sympathy. Have a read if u like, the responses really helped me this week. I found the nausea much like morning sickness and need to eat a bit of toast in a hurry to stop it or salty crackers like Saladas. Fear of the unknown is pretty scary but treatment and support is so much better these days. And this website is amazing. Any more questions ask away Im not much ahead of you with my treatment.
