We can all understand what a shock it is and making decisions is the last thing you want to do right now. It’s usually possible to have some type of reconstruction long after the mastectomy, just as it’s possible to have immediate reconstruction. My surgeon preferred to wait which suited me well as I wasn’t sure (I was 67 and ultimately decided against reconstruction). Your best option for reconstruction may need an immediate decision, but maybe not. It’s important to have a discussion with your surgeon about all your options as soon as possible, so you can make an informed choice. Best wishes.
