In relation to geographical area.... I had public radiation at GCUH through the Icon centre there, I don’t have insurance so that was my option. Saw consultant a few times, occasionally only Reg was available but all decisions went through her. I didn’t really have any need to change plans or anything throughout radiation so I don’t think I actually needed to see a doctor regularly, maybe it’s different if you get bad side effects. She prescribed me vitamins at the end to help ongoing healing. The nurses managed the skin care throughout, I saw them as regularly as I needed to.
Longest wait I had was 45 minutes; they’re very good at scheduling and schedule the longer stuff in one half of day and quick zaps like breast in other. My long waits were usually after an older lady who struggled with deep breath holds, so I imagine it’s probably variable. No faults to the public care there IMO. My friend is actually a radiant therapist and worked across both ICON at GCUH and Gold Coast private, she’s said there’s no difference. I visited her once at the private, it’s just a smaller version of public with less people from what I could see.
They give out parking permits at GCUH so you don’t have to pay for parking each day.
