Hi everyone,I am about to start chemo before a full mastectomy, and whilst a strange question - I thought I would ask it anyway. I am after fashionable and stylish headwear for my journey. I have had a peek around and what I can see is a little drab for me. I would love any links.Thanks x

Hi gals!I too had the same issue with headwear. Here’s what I’ve learned:1. I need the soft (expensive) bamboo skullcaps for sleeping at night, especially when it gets a bit cold. You can get these half price at your local cancer council wig library, if your region/ area has them. Worth having a couple on rotate; they’re also useful for under silkier scarves to secure them if you’re doing a head wrap.2. Thanks to Autumn I’m practically living in beanies/woolly hats - thank god for the cooler air, I say! 3. Those videos are so helpful! I’ve raided Vinnies several times for their biggest square scarves (best for turbans with a knot at the front and spare scarf material running back down the centre of your head) and their longest rectangular scarves (best for wrapping around the head and for big bows, if the material allows). As the look good feel better ladies say - colour is your friend!4. Fringe wigs are the future. I bought two from this place ($20 for real human hair) and often chuck them under a head scarf or a turban purchased from good old eBay.https://medusaaustralia.com.au/shop/clip-in/clip-on-fringe/Pics above are of said fringe wig in action - I just lie it on my head in the vaguely the right spot and get wrapping to secure it. You can buy a net wig cap (like fishnets for your head) to clip the fringe on to if that’s preferred - I’m just lazy and they give me a headache! Hope this helps :)

There's some sites on you tube that show you how to tie scarves into quite stylish turbans. If you haven't got any scarves, the local op shop can be a goldmine for them. When I'm sick of the wig and the beanies aren't appropriate, I do scarves and usually get compliments (maybe people just don't know what to say).I was hoping that Yassmin's Hijabista show would come on (you know that one everyone's gettting their knickers in a twist about). Her scarves always look fabulous.

I'm neither photogenic nor good at selfies, and not wearing makeup, but here's one done with a light winter scarf.

I would have loved to added pic ideas. I used the scarf tying but also used cotton caps and just tied scarves around to make them look different. I bought my scarves very cheaply through Kmart...mostly cotton. I bought lots of wooky hats...many through cgeap as chips and wore a bamboo wig liner underneath.This is a new site I was emailed. Necessity is the mother of invention. I know what you mean by drab. I do have some lovely wigs which I have had for yonks and live wearing them but sometimes a scarf is cooler. I tend to look like a drowned rat around the head when I wear a scarf. The best thing that happened to me was accidentaly walking into an Islamic clothes shop. Thr lady showed me a cap that had a knob in the back. Omg it's been my saviour. I have bought fabulous scarves at the op shops for next to nothing. One of my most admired ones cost me 3 bucks. Look on you tube for ideas. My knobby cap helps the scarf to grip and gives my head some shape.u sometimes put a small diamonte where I've made a knot above my ear and I let one piece of the fabric from the knot hang down. If your like me and get carried away you'll end up with countless scarves and caps. Enjoy being a fashionista

@Romla, I'd still love that, even with my hair back. It'd be great on a cold Canberra winter morning.
I had a wig for work, through chemo, as I didn't want to look "sick". I regularly got comments about people loving my new do. Just smiled and accepted. I hated it though. It was so uncomfortable. After surgery, I gave up on the wig, I just couldn't stand it. Loved some of my other headwear though, and still use some of the scarves, one way or another

There is a place in Queensland, on the Gold Coast: www.healingcolours.com.au that sells very colourful hand dyed Australian woollen or cotton wraps that you can wrap to look like a turban. They wash well and don't take long to dry. I have 4 of them and they look great. They only cost $20 each. They go by the name "Wrapd in Love".
