Another newbie here - going through the process! and travel plans??

I’m sure life likes to create a few bumps to see how you cope!  This one can be my last!!
So 48 and had a routine mammogram and ultrasound on 9/3/18 - only booked day prior after having referral a few weeks, more concerned with my B12 deficiency. Had biopsies same afternoon and long wait for results until late following Wednesday and Surgeon booked next day. All fast and surgery last Monday 26/3/18. Back to Surgeon today and in for more surgery to ensure clean margins tomorrow.
I have lobular type - still getting my head around this and look like with need hormone therapy. Referrals for radiation etc. being done today so the wheels are still turning. Trying to be positive and treating as a process _ but seeming a big one right now!

  • I had my re-excision on a Tuesday and flew from Melbourne to Sydney on the Friday (for a wedding) and home again on Sunday. It was fine. Just make sure you pack your painkillers in case you need them.
  • I think that is yet to come - been so rushed and organised in my head what’s next. When the radiation comes, not so ordered  and stays I think I will be needing these forums even more.
We are travelling to NZ on 19/4/18 to visit family. Planned over Christmas- wasn’t an issue based on original surgery date. Surgeon now says more about my comfort - wondering anyone else’s experiences. My post went ion and I forgot deleted that part but not the tag!!
  • @Traynota I had to have a re-excision, not as lengthy as the first op, you'll be right ☺

It's nice to be positive and I must say you sound very chirpy! But having a cry/vent/rage can be very cathartic. This forum is an excellent place for any and all of the above; we all get it, so if you need to, let it rip. BC is a big mountain for a woman to climb.

You mentioned travel plans in your title. Did that mean all the to-ing and fro-ing from appointments, or something much nicer?!
  • Hoping all margins out tomorrow, lucky enough still left in there! It’s such a roller coaster! Good luck with your too!
  • Just realised I typed 8/3... chemo brain at work - should have been 8/12.
  • Hi @Traynota I was diagnosed on 8/3 with lobular. Same as you - in quickly for surgery, then back again for mastectomy after it was found to be much bigger, no clear margins and also nodes involved. I never expected as had no signs - had the mammogram just to tick a box. Kind of took the wheels off summer plans. I'm about quarter of the way through chemo, then will have rads and then go onto some sort of hormone therapy. Welcome to the network - you'll find lots of support here and good info.
  • Hi @Traynota,

Life sure can throw some curve balls can't it?  Well welcome to the forum.  You will find some very useful advice and a wealth of knowledge and warmth from everyone that is, and has been, on the BC roller coaster.  It does make your head swim, to say the least, at the beginning.  Luckily the bc process is a very well oiled machine in Australia trust your team and your instincts. Ask lots of questions. Do you have a breast care nurse to help you through?
I had a different type of breast cancer but I am sure there will be many with a similar diagnosis to give you some tips.
    XOXOXO
