What to do with my hair 5 months after chemo? Hair dyes?
Hi,
My hair is fairly thick now but still very short and a bit wavy, especially at the back, puffy on the top, flicks out at my ears.
l am hating the colour, it is such a weird salt and pepper colour with a tinge of red. I did not have this much grey before,
l am a natural redhead, l did get a few foils in my hair regularly before l lost my hair from chemo.
Will my hair go back to it's original colour or am l stuck with mostly grey hair now?
How safe is it to dye my hair and can l expect to get the colour that l want?
I will go to a professional.
I would love to hear from those that have coloured their hair after chemo, how long after and what results they got.
I hate looking in the mirror, l feel as if l have lost myself.
Cheers,
Karen

Well done you! x - kmakmMemberGoodness @lmc1310, you look so well and happy! Beautiful and inspirational. Thank you for sharing such a great photo.
- Lmc1310MemberHere I am after lumptectomy, 1/11 nodes, a /c, taxol, radio, herceptin and about three months so far of arimidex. Port out last Wednesday, such a good feeling, but ouch!!! Have had three haircuts since taxol stopped last July. I am super happy and staying grey as pre diagnosis, (back in Nov. 2016), I was wondering how in the heck I would be able to grow the dye out! Best wishes and hugs to you all. Xo
- viking1Member@jennyss Mine is similar to yours except seems to want to be a mohawk! I was dark brown but now salt and pepper. I may play around with semi perm colours later eg teal or pink for fun or silver ... but I'm not going back to permanent colours. I will save the upkeep for an overseas holiday and let my hair do it's own crazy thing!
- jennyssMemberDear @Kazmar, I can't offer much about dyes; just adding to the reports of hair growing back curly and steely grey. Here are my curly locks 5 months post chemo. I have decided to keep my hair short. Best wishes from jennyss
- primekMemberMy hair started growing back on taxol so within weeks of finishing I had enough hair to go to work hatkess...it was pure white. I had some grey begorehand but not like that. Overc18 months it went steely coloured. I seemed to have lost my very light brown hair with darker undertones and blonde to just dark undertones and grey. Recently after attempting to grow it out with half curl and half not...I went short again. I also had some blonde highlights put in all over. My hair texture much like my hold hair and again very happy with the colour. Pre cut...I really looked like old lady permed hair.

18th after chemo - kmakmMember@duxx1234 Thank you! Isn't it wonderful how we can all support each other here?! 27 days until the big op, and then 7 years of Anastrozole. It sure is a long haul.
- duxx1234MemberThank you!@kmakm It’s great to have one course crossed off! Taxol next. Then 30 doses of radiation coming my way. A long way to go, but I’m getting there! Best wishes for your recovery! Well done, you!
- kmakmMember@sister Ah! Of course. I forgot about that. Congrats @duxx1234! And best wishes for the Taxol.
