Hi,My hair is fairly thick now but still very short and a bit wavy, especially at the back, puffy on the top,flicks out at my ears. l am hating the colour, it is such a weird salt and pepper colour with a tinge of red. I did not have this much grey before,l am a natural redhead, l did get a few foils in my hair regularly before l lost my hair from chemo. Will my hair go back to it's original colour or am l stuck with mostly grey hair now?How safe is it to dye my hair and can l expect to get the colour that l want?I will go to a professional.I would love to hear from those that have coloured their hair after chemo, how long after and what results they got.I hate looking in the mirror, l feel as if l have lost myself.Cheers,Karen

Hi there @Kazmar. Mine was salt and pepper too when it first grew back I went to my hairdresser about the 10 to 12 week mark and she dyed it for me and tidied it up to help out grow in some sort of style. I’ll attach the pics for you. I’d recommend you see your hairdresser for it though just to get good even coverage. That’s me on the right I finished chemo oct 2016 and this was feb 2017

Here I am after lumptectomy, 1/11 nodes, a /c, taxol, radio, herceptin and about three months so far of arimidex. Port out last Wednesday, such a good feeling, but ouch!!! Have had three haircuts since taxol stopped last July. I am super happy and staying grey as pre diagnosis, (back in Nov. 2016), I was wondering how in the heck I would be able to grow the dye out! hi @Kazmar. Good questions! I'll start off by telling you what happened to me. I had dyed ash blonde long curly hair and I suspected my natural colour was almost all over grey too. My hair came back in thick and curly and platinum but very coarse and wiry. I used the 'natural' hair dye Herbatint Ash Blonde from a health food shop about 5 months post chemo but it hardly did a thing. I waited another 6 weeks and went to my hairdresser who dyed it with my old colour and again, hardly a difference. Waited another 8 weeks and my hair seemed to be getting softer as it grew and finally 6 weeks ago I went back to my hairdresser and the colour took. So all up nearly a year since I had it shaved did it feel and 'act' (!) like my hair again. It also tied in with finishing a year on Herceptin so maybe there's a link there as well.It's still curly and I don't think I'll go back to having it long again but I feel more like my old self when its coloured.Glad you're over the worst of it and good luck with everything! x

My hair started growing back on taxol so within weeks of finishing I had enough hair to go to work hatkess...it was pure white. I had some grey begorehand but not like that. Overc18 months it went steely coloured. I seemed to have lost my very light brown hair with darker undertones and blonde to just dark undertones and grey. Recently after attempting to grow it out with half curl and half not...I went short again. I also had some blonde highlights put in all over. My hair texture much like my hold hair and again very happy with the colour. Pre cut...I really looked like old lady permed hair. 6 months after chemo14 months after chemo18th after chemo

Just had my first haircut in 8 months. It was so nice to have my hair shampooed, conditioned, then a head massage. My hairdresser cut my curls off. She didn't want me to have a mullet. I am so pleased with it. Booked in for another cut in 8 weeks.

Fingers crossed for you @kmakm. Sounds strange but I was a little disappointed it was not curly. Not for long tho. Was just glad I was getting it back. I hated wearing a wig.

@Janny54 Mine's growing back now and I desperately want it to curl! The ones on top are bending over. I'm waiting to see if it's gravity or beginning of a curl. Please please please the latter!

This is the haircut I want - as soon as the top gets longer, I'll be using your visage to show my hairdresser. I hope you don't mind.

Dear @duxx1234 and @Lmc1310 and all dealing with new hair and hair dye: So I had my hair cut on April 10th; a no 6 with hair clippers. I had posted a picture of my curls on April 3rd, but now the curls are all gone; just grown out with new straight hair underneath. Now I have a mohawk, as a strip of hair down the middle is growing twice as fast as the rest! A ten year old friend of the family said admiringly that my hair looks like TinTin! Just have to laugh!
