State of the Nation - Question Parking

Thank you for your feedback @kathyk16 - we are currently writing to all the Premiers to ask them to follow in the footsteps of NSW with a parking policy. Fingers are crossed that others will not have to experience the same level of financial impact that you have.

I had to pay for parking while on chemo $20+ a time and on age pension it adds up so my daughters tried to help when they were able between work and children commitments etc. I am also a Carer for my husband and I had to make sure there was a Carer with him most of the time when I was having treatment. Parking prices are shocking. Kathy

We pay around $10 for parking at Gosford private for chemo. Gosford Public have vouchers. I wonder why I have been paying for private cover all these years. But $10 seems reasonable compared to others. 

I had my chemo and radiation at Westmead Public at the Princess Mary Cancer Center. They give you a laminated parking sign for you to put on your dash while you're having therapy. You give a $20 deposit and get that back when you've finished therapy. However it only works in the designated patients car park just outside the cancer centre. There might be about 20 car parks there, so I got there early to sit and wait for a car park to be free. Most times I got a car park. On days when I didn't have much time and there were no parks I'd have to park in the public car park. Lisha

I did Chemo at Freemasons in East Melbourne its Private and I received a discount for parking only, so there was quite a bit of out of pocket. Cheers, Melinda xo

Great news from the NSW Government yesterday on fairer parking fees for all public hospitals in NSW.  For more information you can see their statement.

This all came about from a fourteen-year-old Gidon Goodman, who has a rare blood disorder and has to go to hospital for regular medical infusions. He started the petition because of the enormous cost to his family. It is amazing what consumer activism can do!

Never once had to pay for parking in the ACT for any of my visits to surgeon, oncologists, imaging centre for scans, specialist for heart echos, chemo or radiation. Only time we ever paid for parking was when I was admitted to private hospital for my surgery and hubby visited me.
