A little bit about my story.....
My breast cancer journey began in May 2020. Three weeks after finding a very small lump on my breast I was in hospital having a full mastectomy of my right breast. I also had to lose my nipple. Turns out I had Hormone receptor positive breast cancer, stage 3 that had doubled in size in a very short time. The cancer had just reached the lymph nodes which resulted in a 3 month chemo treatment. Basically, I was lucky my doctor and surgeons wasted no time as it was aggressive!!! How quickly you can go from being a perfectly healthy person to having your world turn upside down. I have been on Tamoxifen since Sept 2020 and had a breast reconstruction (implant) in Nov 2020. Going through cancer and chemo through covid and Melbourne lockdowns while also running my bookkeeping business and keeping up with the ever changing world and business positions was exhausting, but I got through it all. Now I am on the other side of what has been the toughest thing in my life. My husband and daughters were my rock, as all our extended families are interstate and borders were closed. I spent many months only seeing my husband, daughters, my breast surgeons, oncologist, nurses and hospital staff. The rest of the time I was home in lockdown and staying safe from covid!!! This is why I am thinking of starting a group, as there may be women in my area that do not have a big support base, and a couple of friendly faces that understand their journey could really make a difference.
