Hi - this post is Admin approved (just need to be mindful of the community guidelines :smile: )I'm keen to get some recommendations please, of any Exercise Physiologists in Sydney (especially on the Eastern Suburbs or Lower North Shore and surrounds), that specialise in Breast Cancer peops like us! There are a few of them listed in the BCNA service directory - anyone used any of those and found them to be great? Anyone used others that are not listed and found them to be great? Has anyone been to Cancer Fit Australia in Greenwich? Thanks in advance!

My son is a personal trainer and far from run of the mill. Unfortunately he lives on the other side of the world. It's very interesting to me that it takes a serious health issue to get people into exercise. I hope you can get fit Eastmum. Just as I hope everyone else on the forum can lose the weight they need to. Being fit is so important.

Hi @"Patti J" - I hear you! I am be-moaning the fact that I have let my fitness and healthy weight lag so far behind and I have absolutely no excuse - it's simply a case of 'I'll get to that tomorrow' combined with a sedentary job that has me sitting at a desk for hours on end - I take full ownership for my predicament. On the other hand, I'm celebrating the fact that I have an opportunity to do something about it. This Breast Cancer has given me a huge wake up call - and I think that's the case with the many people who get into exercise as a result of a serious issue. So rather than let this disease get the better of me, and bring me further down into 'un-fitness', within the parameters of what I am able to do during my treatment, I'm going to use it as a spring-board to do as much as I can to come out on the other end as a new and improved version of myself :wink: PS - definitely did not mean to suggest that all personal trainers are 'run of the mill' - a thousand apologies to anyone I've offended - a poor choice of words indeed. What I meant was, that I would particularly love to consult someone who has experience with people who are undergoing treatment for Breast Cancer, and all the baggage that comes along with that. xxxxx

I was doing 5km walks every day for 2 out of the 3 weeks on AC until the last one. Heart rate went up, head pounding, fatigue and breathlessness set in - I'm doing the rehab oncology exercise programme (completely monitored) but have not been able to start walking again which is frustrating

thanks @Sister - If I can get through the next 48 hours, still coughing, but escaping a fever - I'll be tempted to do cartwheels! Watch this space!

@Eastmum Bloody chemo just wears you down emotionally as well as physically. I feel like I have a little rain cloud travelling around with me these last few weeks. Look after yourself.

@iserbrown - I'm just so sick of myself! Never thought I'd be the type to feel so despondent - I'm usually the trooper! Team Chirpy that's me! But right now I'm just teary and feeling sorry for myself and I can't stand it! I need to pick myself up, dust myself off and thank my lucky starts that I have so many blessings (as well as a mouth full of ulcers, and a side table piled with snotty tissues! LOL).

Wise move don't attempt the exercise path until you feel much better - you will then cope with it better and feel the benefits. As to coughing and spluttering unfortunately it is what it is but listen to your body, rest where you can and hopefully your number of days with a cold may reduce. Last year I had 3 bad colds and one of them lasted near on 8 weeks, less than impressed however it reminded me that my immune system was not as strong as I thought it may have been and it is so easy to pick up germs without trying. Hand rails, shopping trolleys, walking past someone who decides to sneeze without covering up and so it goes...………….

Hi @iserbrown - thanks so much for thinking of me - sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I've taken a bit of a hiatus from the exercise physiology path. I had my 2nd round of AC chemo last Tuesday and believe it or not, I still have that viral cold that I landed me in hospital with febrile neutropenia after round 1. It's really never gone away but I was really feeling totally fine on the day I was due for round 2, and my neutrophils were way back up to a wonderful level so I had the treatment. Today is Day 6 and I'm still coughing and spluttering away - although no fever at the moment and hoping it will stay that way. I'm a bit terrified about it turning into phenumonia. I'm going to 'file' all this great exercise info away for a while and will definitely go down this track as soon as I'm ready!

Excellent walk! We did that years ago and the last scary bit I sat it out and waited for hubby to return. The scary bit from memory is fresh air beneath you as you go from one part of the track to the other and I couldn't cope with that - it's a huge walk back afterwards so yes you need to be fit to do it! We took water and a sandwich and had about 20mins resting on a rock enjoying the view and the sanger before we headed back down again.

My husband suggested we should think about St Mary's Peak walk the other day (Flinders Ranges). I've never been particularly keen on it in my fittest days as it's steep (and there's supposed to be a scary bit where I'm worried that I'd freeze).

Oh gosh @Annski, that is so nice of you to say. I did make a conscious choice to be very honest here as I think it's the best way to help others. To share my experience, warts and all, to reassure others that we're more alike than different, and that we're all in this together.

You'll be pleased to know that I've got better at pacing myself since that last post above! I'm being as careful as I can with my scheduling so I don't overload my days. Nothing on tomorrow until the evening (school concert) so it'll be just me and the black and white dog heading out for a steady walk! I hope you're keeping well. Kate xox
