Hi AllIt's been a long time since I posted. I've been thinking about this, and watching to see if anyone else commented on this. I don't know if somewhere along the way I've missed something. Was there discussion or consultaion about the name change to Pink Lady? I feel that it's diappointing, and disrespectful to our male members, after all, men do get breast cancer too, And as an organisation, I thought the aim was to be more inclusive, not less. I'll be interested to hear your thoughtsLyn

Romla, I understand your thinking, but I feel that may be a step too far - sponsorship is a tricky and hard beast and without knowing details of relationships we might, inadvertently, do harm. Going to the Executive and Board is a reasonable thing to do as they make the decisions. Involving the sponsors is a step I would be loathe to take at this stage. Hope you understand. I hope to get the letter out tonight/tomorrow, will copy to al those who have asked to append their names. So if you wish to add your name (we already have quite a number) please send your name (first or both names)/city/state please by message asap.

Thankyou @Christine_BCNA-CEO I think the survey is a great idea. I would like to think that the wording of the survey asks the question about if they feel men would feel included with this name change. Yes ...many many people are still unaware that men get breast cancer and careful wording of a survey to lay out options to include all members is crucial. Many surveys can be worded in such a way to just encourage people to just agree as they don't give alternative choices or reasons people might not feel included. I'd like to think this won't be done with this survey.Thanks again. Kath.

I totally agree that the name should not be The Pink Lady and would have liked my name added to the letter but have had to prioritise family issues at the moment. BUT I would like to say a big thank you to all of you who have made comments and made sure that this issue was raised and acknowledged. I look forward to being able to add my opinion to the survey when it is issued. Xx

Um isn't 'pink lady' the name of a female sanitary bin company? I agree with the previous comments. Why even change? A beacon is a symbol of light, hope , guidance! Janine

I thought the name Beacon was a creative 'play' with the first three consonants of BCNA.
I appreciate the informative explanation regarding the reasons for change. However, I would venture to suggest that the mere fact of a change is problematic - every subscriber has experienced a potentially life threatening change and its reassuring when something so supportive and familiar remains predictable.
Beacon is also gender inclusive.
