MRIs are charged for according to the letter of referral. Recently my husband was required to have one to determine the extent (if any) of dementia. We had to pay a huge out of pocket. If the referral was worded for unexplained headaches there would have been no gap fee. Go figure !
Most public hospitals have outsourced their radiology departments as well as the pharmacy and blood takers so this is a good money spinner all round.
