On Our Walks
A while back there was a lovely thread of sunrises that the early risers among us posted. I loved it, so I thought I'd broaden it to a thread for all the lovely sights we see as we do our slow staggers through chemo, or those walks we take after active treatment has finished and we're trying to get our strength and fitness back.
In Melbourne today the weather was sunny, still and mild; perfect for a walk. I have followed my GP to a small town in the Yarra Valley (a good GP is worth the 30 minute drive I reckon), and right outside her surgery is the start of a beautifully laid out walking track. It's 7kms long and I've been keen to explore it. So today I walked halfway along it and back. At over 7kms it was the longest walk I've done since the day before chemo!

- Heard a noise on the verandah and expected to find a possum but to our surprise he's back!
- Fortitude Valley used to be the place for Chinese meals too!
- @Afraser Thank you. I will check out all of those. My hotel is in between the CBD and Fortitude Valley so I am nicely positioned I think.
- Phillip Bacon Galleries (Fortitude Valley) are still the go to place in the commercial scene. Queensland Art Gallery is overall good (apart from the silly water feature!). Roma Parkland and the Botanic Gardens are both central.
- Calling all walkers, I am spending the next few days in Brisbane where I'm attending my brother-in-law's (third!) wedding. I haven't been there for 31 years. What should I see/do/eat? Open for suggestions! Love a long walk and explore, an art gallery, and interesting shops. I'm catching up with @onemargie and @Flaneuse and looking forward to it. :)
- Hi @Sister, it is a large bush! Over 2 metres, proof of what happens when you leave things alone, which is my only safe gardening practice. My mother could grow anything, anywhere but I have inherited my father’s gardening ability which means I am OK cutting grass. Roses, being as tough as old boots, are usually safe and I have some small success with plants labelled ‘opportunistic grower’ (or weed), but anything else may simply be tortured to death. Two columbines are doing splendidly but they are the survivors of 18 planted!!

- @afraser I didn't know what your flower was but I thought the leaves looked like lilac and the flowers like ageratum - I obviously had the scale all wrong in my mind as I thought it was a large bush!
