- kezmuscMember@Shakalker. I had the solugel for a few days, then the flamazene (obviously don't use if it feels worse) it started to heal really quickly with that. I think the hospital might be a good idea as suggested, they will have a wound care nurse as well.
@JoeyLiz. Can you help at all lovely??? - BlondyMemberOh @Shakalker. I think we all think our own is the worst, but you take the cake. That needs some serious attention. Please dont leave your appointment without some sound treatment in place, and you're satisfied. That is your right. Sometimes we have to be the pilot. I never knew the strength of my radiations but one if my friends knows hers. It might be useful to know what strength you had and has your rad onc seen similar reactions. At the centre I go to I'm always told that I can make an appointment at anytime. Hooefully you can too. The rad nurses did daily dressings after I was finished, and then a community nurse called in at home. I felt guilty using her time so my husband watched what she did and then took on the job. The bottom line is, you need some intense TLC on that and I hope you can get it sorted quickly. I can't even imagine the pain you must be in. Hugs ti you.
- AnnskiMemberGood grief @Shakalker I thought mine was dreadful but that looks so much worse. I went back to the radiation unit and they gave me heaps of gel gauze dressings and changed it a couple of times. Flamazene made it worse. If you don't feel confident with the nurses there go straight to the hospital emergency service. It will pass eventually but in the meantime you must be in agony. Nobody should have to deal with that on their own. Thinking of you.
- FinchMemberThis looks very painful and sore. Sending you big gentle hugs.
I'm surprised you've been told to put MooGoo on your burns. I had very similar burns to you nearing the end and after my radiation last year. I was seen by the radiation nurse every day for the last two weeks of radiation and this continued after radiation until it was decided I could go to two days and then three days to have the site dressed. The nurse took a swab at one stage to rule out infection, which came back negative.
i was told to stop using the MooGoo equivalent ,QV cream, once I started to burn. MooGoo/QV cream is a moisturiser and used at the beginning of treatment when the skin is intact and not blistered.
The radiation nurse used Solugel on me , which is used for burns, and used in burns wards, it was smeared on very thickly, with mepilex over the top of my entire breast area. I then popped a fitted tank top on top to hold the dressing in place. I healed up very quickly once it started to heal.
My concern for you is the MooGoo is not a sterile ointment and is not used for severe burns. I think you need to be seen and treated by an experienced burns nurse/radiation nurse.
Best wishes and take care. Hugs Xxxx - lrb_03MemberIf the radiation oncology nurses aren't helping, do yo have a breast care nurse you can talk to? I'm sure there are options out there but they can be hard to find. Even so, the R/O nurses should be familiar with what is available. Having said that, I like the suggestion you had from a doctor much more than what your radiation nurse said.
Once you remove a dressing, you're increasing your infection risk by putting that same dressing back on, I would have thought. I agree with @primek, maybe a few days in hospital, or with community nurses coming to you to chage the dressings would be beneficial
Hope your appointment tomorrow goes ok
Take care - ShakalkerMember@primek,
you are so right about the dressings, I have not been able to find any that are suitably big enough to cover the area, hopefully I get some satisfaction tomorrow. Xx - ShakalkerMember@Zoffiel,
Thanks for your message.
I know what you mean about the smell, I regularly feel like throwing up when I catch a whiff of that smell, I would estimate that at least 70% of my wound leaks that stinking stuff.
I hope it heals fast. 🤢 - ZoffielMemberShitbags @Shakalker !
That looks really nasty. I looked and, apparently , smelled like a roast chook ( if random dogs that followed me down the road can be believed ) but the horrible oozy stuff was a much smaller area.
If it's any consolation, once it started to heal the burn resolved in a couple of days. It was the centre of my existence for weeks, then it was gone.
I have to admit I still have issues with the site as many people do. Hang in there, you are through the worst of it. Mxx - primekMemberI would visit ED ...I think your chest needs a hospitalisation to deal with the dressings needed.
Having said that...dead skin coming off is a good thing. Maybe even home nursing daily dressings would be of benefit. - arpieMemberDo more than flash it at her, @Shakalker - give her a good hard look and ask what she would do, if this was HER injury!!
If she is not helpful to you - I would suggest you going to your hospital via emergency - it needs to be treated properly asap, to prevent infection!
All the best for your appointment tomorrow xx
