Braca 2 Gene

I had a lumpectomy with a wide excision followed by chemo and radiation.  Three Tumuors were found, with invasive ductal carcinoma.

As my Mum had died from Breast Cancer seven Months previously, I was tested by a genetist.  The results were that I was braca2 positive.

I took Tamoxifin for 3 Years and the my Oncologist suggested that I take Arimidex as it is beneficial for Families like mine.

The Breast Surgeon has now recommended a bilateral Masectomy and I hope to be operated on in the next 3 Months.
I was a bit teary because it was so over whelming but with the support of my Friends I am happy to have my breasts removed as I know it's the right decision.

  • Hi shortlionruth,

I am sorry about you having to have a bilatral mastectomy but it will be for the best .  It is only natural that you were teary because it is terribly overwhelming but do be positive about it all and you will be just fine . I will be praying for you and for a very speedy recovery .

I am still waiting on to be called so that I can have my Braca test too as my mum and my sister both had a mastectomey done , and although my mum did survive my younger sister did not, and I do feel anxious and sometimes teary too , and try very hard to keep busy and push the thoughts away etc... still, I keep busy with gardening , painting and walking and I do love movies, so I make a point of watching one everyday at lunch time over a coffee ...I call it my lunch break treat  hahah!!

    with best wishes
