Reconstruction Operation

I have been diagnosed with Pagets Disease and High Grade DCIS this past week and need to make a decision as to what operation I will have. It is all quite terrifying.  Dr Clarke has been recommended as my Plastic Surgeon to do a Reconstruction.     Has anyone had a similar operation and/or had Dr Clarke as their Surgeon.

  • Hi Freshie girl. Just jumping in with an answer to your querie about joining the breast reconstruction online group. Are you seeing a pink sign, saying area under reconstruction. That is actually the logo of the group. You should be prompted to leave a brief message. Let me know how you go. I will look out for your request tomorrow.

  • Dear Louie I thank you for your helpful comment.  I have tried to join the Reconstruction Online Group but each time it tells me the site is under Reconstruction.  Can you help me to find one that is operational.

    Man Thanks

  • Hi Freshie Girl, Dr Fred Clarke (if that's the same surgeon... in Sydney area?) seems to be the new fave plastic surgeon. There are many ladies who have had him perform their reconstructions recently and all reports I hear are good. Good surgeon and nice as well.

Like Paula said, try the Breast Reconstruction Online Group, also if you are on Facebook there is a reconstruction closed group called Reclaim Your Curves....it can be a daunting process but doable with the right support.

Remember you can have reconstruction at the time of mastectomy, or at anytime later, called delayed. Its a personal preference, chatting to other ladies can help with the decision process.

    Stay in touch XXXLouie

  • Thank you so much I would welcome your comments.  I have had such conflicting advice I am torn changing my mind almost daily. My doctor has recommended a lumpectomy with radiotherapy but reading the booklet supplied by the Breast Cancer Centre on page 8 it quotes a number of features that make it more likely for the cancer to return and I have three of the four areas of concern.  I have been told that the operation for reconstruction takes some time to get over and living on my own I am concerned.  I would appreciate your feedback.  Cheers

  • Hi there.

The reconstruction options can seem very overwhelming and often there are many decisions to be made and quickly. There is a breast reconstruction group on here that you might like to join. Just search for Breast Reconstruction Online Group and request to join with a brief message. One of the facilitators will help you out.

  • What type of reconstructive surgery is your doctor suggesting? I had a bilateral mastectomy with immediate single stage reconstruction And would be happy to comment further if this is an option for you,
