Diep surgery recovery
hi everyone
I’m having double mastectomy and diep reconstruction in about 3 weeks and I was wondering if anyone could give some insight into recovery and how they managed once at home from hospital ? Are you able to move around the house yourself and do small things like make a sandwich ?
They have said to expect to be in hospital for 7 nights
Thanks!!

- SisterMember@kmakm How perfect! What an amazing husband you have and it's obvious that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Give him a big hug from me as I think he's brilliant! And tell your parents that the hotel thing is not so odd - a popular maternity hospital in Adelaide was getting so overbooked a few years ago that they took over a number of rooms in the Hilton Hotel.
Enjoy your stay there without worrying about anyone else, just getting better. You'll need that energy and more when you get back to reality. - Kiwi_AngelMember@kmakm what an amazing gift from your father in law and so wonderful that your fantastic hubby was so in support of it - sounds like u have some amazing men in your life looking after you. No need to be embarrassed about needing a break to look after u - u have been through a huge surgery and need time to heal before u head back to the realities of a busy household. Huge hugs xoxoxo

- kmakmMemberI'm rather embarrassed by this, but have always striven to be honest here, so in that spirit I must tell you that I have not gone home, but instead am healing, resting and relaxing at a local hotel.
Some of you know my home situation is quite stressful and a great deal of work. My BreastCare nurse does, and suggested that I go to a rehab facility for a week or two after the hospital. This eventually fell through as they said I was not a suitable candidate for the facility. My husband was loathe to let go of the idea and we were discussing it with the hospital physiotherapist when I joked that what I needed was two weeks in a five star hotel and room service. Before I knew it my husband was looking up hotels! I protested but he got quite cross and has insisted.
So I have five nights at a local hotel (not five star but very nice), and it is a gift from my adorable father-in-law. He lives with us and knows better than anyone what it's like at home for me, as he's there all the time, seeing and hearing it.
All my friends, and all the medical people, think it's a great idea. My parents do not! Someone said it was a generational thing. I feel kind of weird about it, and as I said, a bit embarrassed. It is less work for my husband though, and he's bringing kids to see me every day.
It is blissfully peaceful and incredibly quiet. I feel kinda selfish but there's no stress here and I'm not doing stuff round the house. I feel guilty for having this amazing opportunity, this generous gift, but relieved at the extra few days grace before re-entering the fray. Can you tell I'm a Gemini?! - kmakmMember@Finch Not at all, couldn't even stand up without fainting... Thanks sista! K xox
- FinchMemberNine laps of the ward!! No stopping you now @kmakm .... you certainly weren't like that when I saw you on Monday . You go girl . Xxxxx
- kmakmMemberAbdominal scar sort of buzzing after nine laps of the ward. Not unpleasant but definitely an odd sensation. Electrical almost.
- kmakmMemberVery dry lips today, and when some dry skin came of I bled like crazy. It didn't stop for half an hour! The Clexane I think. My trolley table looked like a mid-operation surgical tray there were that many bloody tissues on it!
